Tailgate Adjustment Help

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

The boot/tailgate on my Fabia looked very high when compared to the line of the rear of the car, and it also stuck out the back a little, so I tried to adjust it down at the weekend (by altering the lock striker). Do the following post-adjustment pictures look "right" to you?

The lock striker is now as far towards the front of the car as it will go (if you look at the lock striker plate, it's been moved far enough back to reveal some of the cut-out below it - probably 3-4mm). Is that level of adjustment OK, or should I move it back a bit, and look at adjusting something else (or give up)?

Thanks for any help :)

Have you adjusted the little black rubber things at either side of the tailgate?. They should twist in and out.

Regards Chris:)

Do you mean the little black "mushroom" rubbers either side of the "base"of the tailgate (when shut)? If so, no - I didn't realise they moved (Haynes manual didn't say to touch them). :o

No, just above the light clusters on each side is a two-piece black plastic thingy. If you loosen the screw in the middle, you can move the central bit in and out to adjust the fit of the boot. :)

Ifit's like my wife's, however, the trim on the inside of the boot lid has been off to repair the rear wash-wipe, and hasn't gone back on quite right. On hers, the boot sometimes needs a bit of a slam to get it to sit flush...

They have a thread on them that lets them screw in and out. If you go too far with them then the tailgate will rattle not far enough and the catch will struggle to lock.

Regards Chris:)

Ah, those. Hadn't thought of trying them, as it seemed to be the lock striker that wanted moving (now, when the boot's locked, you can still give it a downward shove and it move perfectly into line before bouncing back as it springs off the rubber).

I'll have a look at that ...

Cool - I think they looked pretty flush with the tailgate door, which is why I didn't think they were adjustable, but I'll have another look. :)

Hmmm got a little bit of water seeping in around my tailgate seals, might have to try this.

I had a look at the tailgate yesterday, and neither the little black wedges on the side, nor the little black "mushroom feet" are connecting with the body (I actually adjusted the feet out a little so that they did), even with the lock striker adjusted. I guess it'll have to stay as it is...
