Fabia steering angle sensor change - HELP

Featured Replies

Hi,

So I took the plunge and bought a new sensor for my 03 Fabia estate, as it was suffering from the all to common steering sensor issue where the light comes on when you start the engine. Ok, so I got the old one out, no probs, got the new one in but it fits into the housing both ways, ie you can put it in then take it out revolve ie 180 degrees and put it back in, foolishly when I took the old one out I assumes it would only fit one way so didn't take much notice of which way it came out. So the question, does it matter? If so which way, the picture on the helpful how to below seems to show that the area where the wiring attaches is slightly closer to the left hand side as you look at it from below.

Next point, when you fit the new one, assuming I have fitted it correctly, should the system reset itself or will I have to get it hooked up to VAG com to clear any fault codes? Currently with the new fitted the light still comes on as before?

Your worldly help would be most appreciated??:thumbup:

Cheers

Tracy

Put the car back together and clear the fault codes with VAG COM (address 44) and enjoy your new found power steering.

Generally, if something has to go in a particular way, it'll be designed so that it can only go in that way, but if you've done it like it's shown on Stu's site, you should be OK. For the most part, dash lights need to be reset, although if it was only ever recorded as 'intermittent', it may go away by itself after a couple of starts. Legend has it that leaving the ignition so that all the dash lights are on but the engine's not started for a couple of minutes, then switching off and starting the car can reset some dash lights, but I don't know for sure. It SEEMED to work on my wife's car, but as I mentioned above, it could have been because of an intermittent fault that 'timed out'...

May be easiest just to see if a nearby member with VAG-COM can give your car the once-over! :)

Cheers for the replys, MikeSM56, I did read that part of the how to you know LOL but the guy in the garage where I bought the part seemed to think that as the problem was intermitent that it should reset without the need for VAG COM, I will try the switch it on for a few minutes thing tho, then off to man with a VC...............at least I hope he has one!

Anyone near Chippenham, Wiltshire with one just in case................beer tokens???? :P
