HELP: How to order a Yeti

Featured Replies

I've emailed Skoda UK already. But I can't get the second of these links to work - all I get is "Unable to redirect to http://new.skoda-auto.com/COM/aid/errors/pages/500.aspx". Anyone know the email address for skoda customer services in the CZ? I'm not having much luck here :(

Think their server must be down, cannot get on site either. Anyway e-mail address:

[email protected]

Whereabouts in Ross-shire were your brought up? We're at Portmahomack, on the Tarbat peninsula.

4x4 is not essential for us. It's ground clearance we need rather than 4x4 grip. Lots of roads with broken edges and deep gullies, car parks with deep potholes, and tracks with deep ruts. Of course the "greens" object to anything that even looks like a 4x4 - they should try living somewhere like the Scottish Highlands!!

More important is cost, fuel consumption and low road tax. And we'd have to wait until May 2010 (wk 22) for the 4x4 DSG :(

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Interesting post.

To my mind the 'lifestyle' that the marketing men are trying to sell with vehicles in this class is exactly what you have: wide open spaces, country roads, the whole get away from it all thing. However, much of what is tacked on isn't actually a requirement in the real world and appeals much more to city dwellers than to those who want a truly useful vehicle (not a criticism, just an observation having lived in both city and rural areas).

Subaru seem to illustrate this perfectly. When they were first marketed in the UK they were aimed at the farming community and sold through agricultural shows but over time have become more and more lifestyle and correspondingly less and less utilitarian; compare the first Forester - a slightly raised 4x4 estate - with the current SUV incarnation.

When I first heard about the Yeti I hoped it would be a 'useful' vehicle in the Eastern European tradition of say the Lada Riva (no idea what they were like to own but they always struck me as a no nonsense utility vehicle). My thought now is that the balance is just about right, not too much excess baggage in the over-styling department (compare say the original RAV4 with the current one) but plenty enough refinement for a 21st century car. Having family in both the Czech Republic and Germany, it strikes me as bringing together the best of both cultures.

Agree, especially with your last paragraph. Maybe that is why I am replacing my original (3dr) RAV4 with a Yeti, Was not interested in latest incarnations of RAV4 and CR-V. Although I live in (soft) Southern Scotland, the Yeti will be much more useful eg for towing, especially in muddy fields, but still refined on the road imo. And it is a bit more compact too for town use.

Wherebouts in S Scotland are you Finebone? I'm in Castle Douglas. Would be interested to see how you get on with your Yeti and how the local dealer performs.

Well, I've had a reply back from Skoda CZ

"Thank you for your interest in our brand but we recommend you contact directly importer in UK who will answer your questions.

VOLKSWAGEN GROUP UK LTD.

MILTON KEYNES,BUCKS.,MK14 5AN

YEOMANS DRIVE, BLAKELANDS"

Is it really worth me emailing VW - would they know what Skoda UK are doing about accepting orders?

I've emailed Skoda UK as well, but so far no reply. It really is a simple question - "Can we order this car now? If not, when can we place the order?"

Edited by tarbat

Sorry to here your still having problems, would be tempted for the hell of it to e-mail Skoda CZ back and tell them that their importer appears reluctant to answer questions!!!

Anyway have you tried ringing them?

Number given on SUK web site is 08457 745 745.

The address given covers all VAG brands imported into the UK I believe.

I'll give Skoda UK a few more days to reply by email, and then might have to phone the 0845 number. I've had a Read Receipt on my email, so it's been opened at least.

An update. Just got home to a voice mail from Skoda UK. The earliest that we can order a Yeti 1.2 DSG is the first week of February 2010 :(

Can't say I'm all that impressed with Skoda. They advertise a car and price that you can't buy. Now need to look around for alternatives.

Now need to look around for alternatives.

Not quite sure what equivalents there are to the Yeti 1.2 DSG.

Nearest auto Q(where's the 'u' gone?)ashqai is £17.250.

Do agree that Skoda could have made it clearer when the variants are available for ordering.

I am sure there are dealers out there willing to take a pre-order. Try Allams of Epsom and ask for James. :)

I 100% see why you are annoyed, perhaps it is worth holding fire, being (seriously) patient and pressing a local dealer to pamper you with free extras/servicing to make it worth the wait? I'm sure the 1.2 DSG Yeti is worth waiting for!!!

Would you consider the 1.8 DSG variant?

Would concur with Tom on this one, I think you would struggle to find anything else that's not be a compromise to your requirements.

Typical though of SUK and just goes to show how inept they can be even had a published price rise on a vehicle that as yet you cannot order.

Would you consider the 1.8 DSG variant?

Do you mean TDI 140 DSG?

And another vote for James at Allams!

Do you mean TDI 140 DSG?

Errr, no, I meant the 1.8TSI DSG.

Errr, no, I meant the 1.8TSI DSG.

Apologies but was unaware of a Yeti with this set-up being on the horizon; the next DSG lauch after the 1.2 TSi is the TDI 140 DSG which is scheduled for the early summer of next year, hence my assumption.

TDI 140 DSG / 1.8TSI DSG - confused!! Is there a list of what variants are available when? Particularly the automatics. I didn't know there was a 1.8TSI DSG. What's the VED band for that one?

As for using James at Allams - its a rather long way away!!

To be honest, I'm resigned to waiting until February next year to order. Still annoyed with Skoda (or the dealer) for wasting my time with test drive, etc. when there's no automatic available to order. Haggling over a price/deal is stressful enough as it is, without having to do it twice!!

And what's the betting that Skoda discontinue the Muscavado (our colour choice) by next February.

And to add insult to injury, I had another phone call from a marketing company (not Skoda UK) today asking me to answer a survey about my Skoda "dealer experience".

Hi tarbat,

As far as I am aware there is only the 1.2TSi DSG (WK5 2010) & TDI 140 4x4 DSG (WK22 2010) planned for the near future. This is based on the build chart for the first year of Yeti production kindly supplied by Ants some time ago, see following link:

http://briskoda.net/yeti/official-yeti-uk-pricing/151790/#post1764210

Hope that clears thing up a bit and again disappointed for you that your having to wait but I think worth it.

Would also be surprised if they withdrew the Muscovado, a lot of people have taken to it and it really suites the Snow-monster. The only colour that has been withdrawn was Anthracite but that withdrawal date was noted in the very first published brochure.

Clairification for those above:

Clarify the situation to avoid any further confusion:

· The Yeti 1.2 TSI DSG goes into production in week 5 2010 (w/c 1 February).

· Retailers will be able to place orders with the factory mid-December.

Sorry it could not be better.

Thanks Colin. Can I just ask what your source is for the statement that retailers will be able to place orders with the factory mid-December for the Yeti 1.2 TSI DSG.

I ask because it contradicts the conversation I had with Skoda UK yesterday. They told me the earliest we could order through the dealer was February.

I hope you're right - if I can order before the end of the year, I might be able to do a deal with the dealer on the VAT increase.

Hi it came from Skoda Uk, Media... One wuld hope the two ends can be tied off now and you can order the car you want...

We were in to sort out the finance paperwork on our Yeti today, and the dealer mentioned (unless I got the wrong end of the stick) he had already ordered a 1.2TSI DSG for a customer! I can't remember if he mentioned a delivery date but I would probably have remembered if if was way into the future.

I know Ross-shire is a long way from Swindon but you could run in your new car on the way home!

They seemed to be snow(monster)ed under with cars and in particular Yetis at the moment - the production increase has been a bit of a surprise.

Finally got a brochure through from Skoda UK, and that now confirms, in the small print, that the 1.2 DSG is "Available to order from week 5 2010 (w/c 1st February)".

Such a long wait - order February, hopefully get it in March I guess.

thanks for this! i've been trying to order a 1.2 TSI DSG S - in cappacino beige. All last week been making calls to our fleet provider Lombard.

This probably is the reason why, the car doesn't exist. The Yeti in this variant is living up to its name in folk law.

Seriously i might have to give up the fantasy and order an XC60 or something. My car goes back end of Janaury. Can i really rely on Skoda to deliver in early Feb? otherwise i'd be car less for weeks, even months.

Sod it, a Tiguan - well i've just looked at the company list today and VW have dropped the price a bit on this. Free upgrade to an SE etc. Its a about £40 per month more expensive. But at least its available and no waiting months for some fictious car than doesn't even exisit.

Sorry Skoda - you've f#?!#@ it up. Another lost customer.

We happened to pop into the Skoda dealer this morning on our way to the Highland Wildlife Park. So I asked if they had price details yet for January. I was then amazed when I was told that I could order a Yeti 1.2 DSG now!!! So much for the dealer's promise to phone me as soon as orders can be accepted. Evidently the new ordering system now has the 1.2 DSG listed, and a phone call to Skoda UK confirmed that an order could be place.

So, we've ordered a Yeti 1.2 TSI DSG Elegance. Muscovado metallic with Gobi Sand leather interior. Extras - Columbus DVD Sat Nav, Panoramic Sunroof, Textile Mats, Mud Flaps front & rear.

Expected early March, so should be on a "10" registration.

That's great news tarbat.

Like your choice of spec by the way. :)
