Lexus IS200 v MG ZT 1.8T 160+

Would an MX-5 suit your requirements? Its a good time of year to be looking, and £3k would get a peach for sure!! Shouldn't lose much value, and they are generally bulletproof, and a huge amount of fun.

If you want a saloon, how about a Honda Accord, these really are bulletproof, still look classy too imho. Should get a 2000/2001 Sport within budget with sensible miles :)

I've thought about a mx5 but i'm not exactly mx5 sized:( if they did a macdonalds supersize version id be fine

Honda Accord sports am afraid they are abit dull for me

How about a MK5 Feista Zetec-S? Or Ford Puma?

Or even a Mk3 Golf GTi Colour Concept/ VR6 Highline?

I wouldn't bother with the MK3 golf at all - the only ones that drive well have had a shedload of money spent on them, and although the VR6 is a peach of an engine it's thirsty and not as quick as you'd expect. The Corrado was worth going for just because it was different, but probably not in your budget.

I wouldn't discount Alfas straight away - yes, they can be problematic, but the problems are all very well understood and the owners clubs know their stuff. The belt replacement schedule is a bit fierce though. and quite expensive on the 2l TS and all the V6 engines.

That good sir- Is as they say A Plan!

The MG's are a lot of car for the money, any of them. And they all drive superbly.

The ZR is poorly built as said and very old underneath. But so easy and cheap to maintain. They are also based on one of the best handling (if most primitive!) fwd chassis available.

The ZS is probably the best driving in stock form of them all. And is effectivly a previous gen Civic with some Rover tweeks (despite what people think, Rover know how to make a car handle). Its no coincadance the touring car went so well.....

And the ZT is a very modern and capable chassis (hence Rover dropping a 500bhp motor in for a fun version) and is also way better designed and assembled than the other 2. It was Rovers first proper car for decades and underneath far better than most give it credit for.

All have typical Rover poor built quality and ropey electrics, but mechanicaly Rovers are generally bullit proof and incredibly reliable. With the exception of all early K series engines (including KV6)!

That said they drive expectionally well straight out of the box.

£ for £ I hate to say it but they knock spots off any vag, or other german car. They just feel like a nebrasken who's drank a few to many screwed them together.
