rear engined skoda

Featured Replies

what was the name of that early 80's skoda and are they any good and what would the insurence be like for a 17/18 year old

the Rapide :D

no idea about insurance.. but one of those with a 1.8t in would rock :)

yeah then it would certainly be rapide ;) lol

i heard a few people fitted them with alfa engines

Rear-engined and RWD - not a "friendly" setup, and it doesn't have any of the sophisticated electronics like the Porsche 911 to keep it in a straight line.

Might be best looking at a Felicia/Favorit for insurance reasons?

Rob.

To those who know:

Rapide == Estelle coupe?

yeah i went on to elephant to try and get a instant quote and its down as a estelle coupe and it was

With the age of a Rapide, you might be best trying to get Classic Car insurance?

Rob.

The 1980s saw the use of the Skoda Estelle 130L as a rally car - lots of bits are, I believe, still available so it may be possible to create a replica of some sort using a good clean donor vehicle as a base. Always thought they looked good in the rally trim!!!

Just buy some HUGE mudflaps ... :D

Decent rally prepped Estelles still cost a good

I have driven (not owned) an Estelle in the past. Its handling was fine, better than the Lada I owned at the time.

My local dealer has one in the showroom...well I thinks it's one of them...it's deffo rear-engined. 1800 genuine miles IIRC

Which dealer is it and how much is he looking for it?

Derek Slacks in Middlesbrough...as I say, I think it is the car you're talking about...not really up on old skodas. IIRC they wanted around the 4K mark...maybe a bit more. Even has original tyres...the guy put different wheels on it while he kept it apparently, to keep the weight off the original tyres.

Just spoke to Slacks, and they say it is a rapide...they want

anyone know if this version is rear engined and would be easy to maybe change to rally spec :D

Yeah, that's rear-engined. Depends what you mean by rally spec as to what would need changing.

Personally, I think you might be best restoring it to original condition, as it might be a collector's item one day. And parts are very cheap in Czech... :)

rally spec meaning maybe stripin it out to make it lighter new engine...then i remembered im 17 so insurences gonna say no no so restoreing it diffo i once helped restore a mg midget to i kinda have some experience in that field

If you're making rally spec, I presume you're going to be using it for rallying? In which case insurance becomes less of a priority possibly? :)

Apart from travel between stages.

Around 10 years ago in max power, this guy had a purple rapid, with spilt rims, lancia intergrale evo engine with NOS.

not really lol although it is a good idea i do know i guy whos racing a metro 6r4 in the scottish rally championship.....ok i kinda like the idea of a rally car now lol problem would be getting it to and from events lol anyone else on here do rally driving so i can work out how much it will cost etc....

Right! As a dedicated rear engined driver I would like to clarify a few points!

There were NO Skoda Rapids in the Very Early 80s the only 2 door coupe that skoda produced upto 1980 were the S110R's Based around the S100 salloon.

the Skoda Rapid was not introduced until 1982 and was a 1.2 4 speed box in 1984 the first of the 130 Rapids were produced! the salloon varient of these models were known as Estelles (only in the UK). everywhere else they were known simply as S (for skoda) and 105,120,130,135,136 (engine variety) LS being the higher compresion varient of the 120!

Insurance on these cars will not cost you more than around
