Heater's gone mental!

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Got a bit of an odditiy going on with my heater. It seems to be quite intermitant but has been becoming more regular over the last few months - and now that we're coming up to the winter months I'm finally coming round to the idea of getting it fixed. Anywho, what seems to happen is whenever I touch the temperature dial the temperature within the car rockets from cold to intense heat - that is that I've had to leave it on cold because as soon as I touch the dial rather than the temp increasing slightly to something more comfortable it rockets to as hot as the heater can get and causes me to start broiling in my own juices! Is this a common problem with Fabias does anyone know? And is it costly to get fixed? (The car's a 51 plate Fabia 1.9Tdi hatchback if it helps at all).

Cheers guys,

GM

Do a quick search for "Heater flap motor" Pretty well documented!

Thanks bud

I think that I've said this already, but if not, I had this problem with my Passat 2000MY, eventually bought a new temperature control flap motor and did nothing as the really hot summer weather had not arrived, then when it did I tried "working" this motor quite a lot - ie HOT > COLD > HOT again and again - 5 or 6 months later the heater temperature control is still controlable. I'd think that two modes of failure can affect these flap motor, ie total failure of the motor or its feedback, or the feedback track grease dries out and the feedback becomes intermittant - so if this second failure mode is your problem, then some more useful life can be got out of this flapmotor being "working" it about - its worth a try - its also handy if you can get hold of VAG-COM or VCDS to check the feedback loop's performance - and re-set the flapmotor's end "stops".

Yea, the heater flap motor is at fault. Mine went from cold in the summer to boiling hot by pressing the brakes too hard.....

ahhhh, nice cold air....brakes.......:eek::eek: sweating my ba**s off....lol
