Worrying problem with central locking.

Featured Replies

I've had a rather worrying experience today. Went out to my car this morning, and unlocked it using the remote, as I always do, and hear the clunk as the doors etc. unlock.

Get in the car, and think, I don't remember leaving the glove box open, nor the hi vis jacket out of the door pocket. I continue to look around the car, and notice the back seat has been folded down as well.

Check if anything is missing, and find that my sat nav is missing from the glove box, complete with the holder, and the charging lead.

The worrying bit is that I know the car was locked at 4pm yesterday, as I always check it. I hadn't actually been out in the car yesterday, just went to get something out of it. All the doors were definitely locked.

There is no sign of forced entry, broken windows, marks on the door or locks, indicating that the locking had been forced, and the doors were locked when I went out to it this morning.

Anyone have any idea how they managed to get into my car without the key, and without damaging the car itself?

I can't help you with how they locked it really. However, we may have a similar issue as I have found my car unlocked on a morning on a number of occasions, knowing full well that I locked it the night before. I do a nightly check of front gate, car and then house and I'm a bit OCD about it all.:o

I wondered if anyone else in the street could set it off with their blipper without knowing? It never happens at work or anywhere else at all, just on our drive and overnight. Wierd eh? So, if you figure it out, let me know as I'd love to know how it happens.

One other option is that I am a total space cadet and leave the car open, but if you knew me and my slightly obsessive nature about cars, then you'd know that is probably the last thing that happens.

Sorry to hear that mate. A mate at work had a knife held to his throat while he was in bed last week, until he told them where the keys were to his type-R. Car crime is getting more sinister.

I watched a brand new ('09) Renault Megane in a public carpark the other day, and it kept unlocking itself and locking constantly for about 30mins, then just stopped. I wasn't sure whether the electrics were playing up (unlikey on a car that is literally box fresh?), or whether some dodgy git in the car park was somehow dialling into the frequency for the locks. Really bizarre. I kept an eye on it all night to make sure no scumbags tried to gut it, and to make sure the same thing didn't happen to my car! Never got a chance to speak to the owner.

Remote central locking...... is it really safe?

Sorry to hear about your theft... scumbags!

The only ways I could think of would be if, a window was slightly down or a door slightly open. Maybe the boot, hence the back seat folded.

Maybe a code stealing device, I suppose you will probably never know

It would be worth scanning the car with VAG Com for fault codes, especially in the central convenience module. When mine played up, the car would unlock itself and sometimes wind down some or all of the windows.

Long shot, but worth a try.

My mates Combo van key makes my doorbell ring when he locks his van. lol

If I double tap the button too unlock the car, sometimes my doorbell goes, but on a different chime to the one its set on :confused:

Hahaha! That must have freaked you out the first time! At least the doorbell button doesn't open your car...

Have you checked ALL the door locks to make sure they are locking ???

I had problems with 3 of mine at various times, when I had the car, and a mate at work has got a mk V golf GTi, which has just started having this problem.

Fortunately, I found a thread on here somewhere, which recommended removing the door card, and liberally spraying the actuator with WD40. It worked for me on all 3 locks :):).

Sorry to hear that mate, there is a way i have heard of that some vag cars can be opened without causing any damage, whether it works or not i dont know. I am not going to post this for obvious reasons however.

You can get a thatcham cat alarm (a good idea on a vrs anyway), fit a keylock blanking plate, use the deadlocks on the car, make sure you dont leave anything of value in there as well, short of that not much else you can do.
