which garage...not those cowboys from Martins I hope?[/quote']

It's the Ridgeway boys and girls in Reading. Who I've found excellent in the past, admittedly the only job they've done before was an MOT and it past, only a mere 3 weeks ago I must add...

Hi,

I had exactly the same thing happen whilst in a traffic queue in the middle of Birmingham.

Killed the car stone dead and I had to be recovered home.

The problem was part number 1J2.721.332A, a plastic clip that clips around the clutch actuation arm and acts as an actuator for the clutch master cylinder.

The recovery man asked what the problem was and when told said - "Oh yes mate, that's a common problem with these cars. Always going those are".

Fortunately, I have someone who can give me a lift the 22 miles into work.

The next day, I inquired about a replacement part from my Skoda dealer, who told me that this was a part which very rarely failed, they didn't hold a stock and the cost was 65p. It would take two days to get one. He gave me a part number and suggested I tried a VW dealer local. I tried them and was told they had one in stock. When I travelled the ten miles to pick one up, I was told they didn't have one in stock. Guess what? The Skoda dealer had given me the wrong part number.

The man in the Skoda dealer parts section was unappologetic about having given me the wrong part, until I made a complaint.

The irony is that I have just ordered another new Octavia on the basis of five and a half years of absolutely trouble free motoring.

Curiously, the Dealer is still insisting this is an uncommon problem.

Has anyone else had this failure??
