Help..............!!

Featured Replies

SWMBO just called to explain a problem with car so bare with me. On start up she says it does'nt sound right 'a bit ropey', normally ticks over at just below 1000rpm, which it is but her description is, it feels like its labouring, then whilst driving, she approached a junction coming to a stop and the revs started increasing without her touching the pedal, to stop this she gave the pedal a light tap...........any advice would be very much appreciated, sooner rather than later if poss'

Our local mechanic suggested an air pipe, the stealers have been next to useless as have Skoda assistance because they can't find my private number plate!

Is yours a TDi?

If so, could this be the DPF Regen Cycle?

I have just found this thread which explains the problem exactly......

I've just taken the car for a drive myself, and it is still running fine, but the problem is at idle.

Any chance of that help?

Pagey, are all plugs inside the engine bay well plugged?

Is the oil filler cap correctly fitted?

I think so, but don't quote me on that

Is the oil filler cap correctly fitted?

Affirmative to that, it was the first thing I checked.

I'm in a hurry for answers as we need the car today for a 200 mile trip, and I didn't want to do any damage, its booked in for next Thursday at my local Skoda garage.

As ever diagnosing from the comfort of ones home isn't ideal so you can't pin your hopes on an answer.

You may have a PCV fault. I know if you remove the filler cap while it's running that causes the problem. Might be as simple as the rubber seal on the filler cap.

Just make sure you have breakdown cover.

Wrong fuel !!

Update, took the car to the stealers today to have the problem diagnosed, heres the thing, after 5 minutes the guy came out and said "you've had a remap" statement not question, I did my best to bluff but they weren't having none of it. The result is, I get charged for the diagnostic but no resolution to the problem, they give me the print out which shows 5 faults detected, which they say could be down to the remap (or not!). because of the remap they say there machine won't work correctly which explains multiple faults, they also say if it is remapped they can't wipe it or reset to standard??

Faults detected:

1. Idling speed regulation speed higher than target value.

2. Fuel measuring system 2, bank 1 malfunction

3. Connection charge-throttle valve, pressure drop

4. Fuel trim, bank 1 system too lean at idle speed

5. Leaking air in intake system

So off I go slightly concerned.........I then get a call from them saying head office confirm warranty invalid when remap detected, but all the faults detected point to an air leak in the intake system, bring it back and we will bleed you dry of your hard earned cash!!!

Ok, so it is remapped, I admit that, but Angel Tuning (the remappers) have confirmed it is not detectable unless its driven, also that the dealer can just upload a newer version of the software to return the vehicle to standard.......

.......I'm currently between a rock and a hard place, can anyone shed some light on the above faults, am I being taken for a mug by someone, and can a run of the mill garage/mechanic sort the problem or does it have to be a main dealer???

Firstly check all the hoses, if that does not work take it back to where you had it mapped and ask them to sort it or return it to normal, then go to another dealer

I reckon they have called your bluff. If your car is outwardly modded, they may have tried it on. 'If it looks non standard to look at might be the same underneath'.

Getting a bit tired of people telling me Maps can't be spotted, whilst others say the opposite. I reckon if a tuner says its' invisible to the stealers and they are found to be wrong, you should get your money back AND have them foot the bill if it's proven the map has knacked the car. It's misrepresentation. Maybe some are not evident, yet the dodgy ones are??

I've been told all the remap are visible via tools commonly available to garages, if they want.

Anyway I'd go away from that dealer and look for another, more friendly garage.

Sorry for your troubles.

Hi there, I had exactly the same problem with my TFSI earlier this year. Simply the throttle control module was dirty and required a good clean-out. Work was covered under warranty and the car has been sweet ever since.

The price for remapping a car under warranty :(

It looks like its going to cost whichever way you turn.

Is the remap under any kind of warranty that could apply to your problem?

Do dealers inform Skoda UK of modded cars, black listing them from warranty work? As in, whats the possibility of getting the remap removed under Angels warranty (if any, and also to verify its not the remap causing the problem) then going to another dealer under warranty?

As for the 'invisible' remap, is it in writing anywhere or is it just the word from a sales person thats open to interpretation?

Just got off the phone with the stealers, I think they're on something, head office have assessed the diagnostic and say it is an air leak in the air intake system, which should be covered under warranty!! this is madness because last week they said, and I quote "any remapping of the ECU will invalidate the warranty on any parts that could be affected by the remap" now I'm thinking the increase in boost could have had some imput.......am I wrong?

My mechanic has found the problem, 'crank shaft hose' does that make any sense to anyone? just waiting for the part, then on with the Evoms.....:D
