Just spent a shedload of cash!

The repair bill has just taken a massive jump.... Well, it was expected but it's not until you hit "click" that you realise. Currently the bill stands at over £1,200 and that's before labour work, recovery, head-work, bolts & gaskets/seals, and the purchase of the new cam. It will be worth it though.

I'm going to guess the total bill will be around £3-3.5k

Hopefully no more than £2.5k, but then I am doing a shedload of upgrading and renewing at the same time so the engine will essentially be a "new" one at the end, if you ignore the bottom end (which has been inspected and told is in great condition, so that's handy)

The turbo has been bought now, as has the new manifold and some fittings, including 4 uprated exhaust valves.

all and all what will this car have cost after all the repairs/upgrading/original cost etc etc?

I seem to have completely missed what you did to your car... Dare I ask?

His turbo went bang on the 2nd lap of the nurnburgring

The car owes me a lot, more than I care to contemplate. But then it will probably be the most powerful FWD 1.9 8v diesel in the country. The turbo has already been taken over 300bhp in Europe, with mods I already have and am getting now, plus I have the water/meth too. I am hoping for around 310-320bhp - I am also hoping this power can be delivered without the usual "Ooooh, my FWD over 250hp is wasted" problems.

mine at jabba now getting st3 costing 7k...they say 250bhp +20 ish with water/meth...where will yours get the other 50 ish from?

Have you got a thread listing what has been done so far? Are you considering/got a LSD?

Don't forget jason we have only checked the piston tops and cylinder walls, we can't see the crankshaft main or big-end bearings...

They'll be fine. ;) Unless you want to drop the sump for a peek? :)

The extra 50hp comes from race injectors, head porting, bigger exhaust valves, race cam and the fact the turbo is bloody good.

PS: This doesn't imply the Jabba turbo isn't good - just I've gone for about the biggest you can really fit before you start getting into turbos which are in reality too over matched for use with the 1.9 TDI engine. Got an LSD too, which is totally awesome.

EDIT: GARY!? god. Always gets in there first.

You are mental.

That is all.

Considering what started you down the Mongrel route, that's probably just as well... :o

knowing how fond mine is of spinning up both wheels at the merest whiff of a damp road, I don't fancy your chances much with an extra 100+ bhp...

:)

my upgrade was with an lsd as well..

I don't think 350, maybe 300. It's the mk2 chassis which helps it run 13 second flat 1/4 miles. At least that's what it was doing at Inters I think?

:iagree:

This will put you in another league Jason!!!

What torque increase are you expecting?

  • Author

Well, currently it (well I say "currently" it's currently sweet f**k all!) is at 370 lb/ft, so I am hoping for over 400 lb/ft for sure, and hopefully close to 450 lb/ft. That I will be happy with. My #1 aim though is for a nice clean power curve right up to the redline, and not just peak figures. :) "Area under the curves" is what needs maximising.

PS: Although you lot might not believe it, once I've achieved this, tuning it will stop. :) From then on, it's just enjoyment and regular maintenance.

Lies and slander.
