C-class

Featured Replies

Hmmmm :rubchin:is it me or is the original 1993 - 2001(?) C class mercedes getting quite rare these days..... and is it wrong to want one of these...... ?

I had one, I part ex'd it for my first Skoda. trust me you dont want one, they are very expensive to fix if they go wrong. The auto box can be unreliable, and the single wiper mechanism is prone to seizing up.

Below is a picture taken in Lyon, France a few weeks before she went in p/ex. On the way back I was constantly pulling over on the autoroute in the pouring rain to keep freeing up the wiper mechanism. Keeping in mind the car was only 5 years old at that time, I hate to think what they are like now.

I should of added that my parents had a C180 in green from 97 to 2003 and currently have the second gen C180 kompressor in silver.....

My other half is an accountant for Mercedes and turned down the company car... says it all really. (half the office did the same)

Badge my ar*e there worse built than fiats! Although they do look nice, bit like alfa's eh?

Like the Mk1 audi A4 they pop up every now and again.

The old C Class was highly regarded though

the MK1 A4 is another car i like...... Saloon or Avant

squint a bit and the Fabia estate looks a bit like a squashed C Class estate

Can't comment on the old one, but a friend has a new one with the 3l diesel lump in it and it's rather nice, although more of a car to be driven in than a driver's car imho :D

I don't know who should be more insulted- Alfa for saying some german box is as good looking as them or Mercedes for saying they are as reliable as a Alfa:confused:

Not rare, not here anyway - saw one just yesterday in white, which was in a right state - and had about 5psi in all tyres and was making some very odd noises

Never been a Merc fan; don't particularly see what the attraction is, especially seeing as their reputation for bullet-proof assembly, build quality and aftersales service is rather tainted these days! I've also never found one that they drive or handle as well as competitor cars. The C isn't as nice to drive as the 3-Series, the E is bettered by the 5 etc etc...

I'd avoid with a rather large bargepole myself :)

Not wrong to want one at all. Had my eye on a C250 Turbo Diesel for a while! I like the styling of it. Bit like the old Jags and such.

Somebody I know owns a C class of that spec with the V6 in it.

It is so smooth, and a great ride too. Lovely car IMHO.

That'll be the AMG version, which having been in 2 now is VERY fast and quiet scary from the passenger seat.

There have been other Cs with V6s in them though, AMG aside?

Steve

I think they stopped the V6 versions once they brought out the kompressors

My dad has a 1995 C280 Elegance and I love driving it: Brawny straight six, smooth auto gearbox but no aircon or alloys even though it was the top of the line model. Go for it but make sure you get at least a C220 as C180 and C200 slow. C250 Turbodiesel much quieter than modern Diesels and surprisingly quick. My mate has one wth 276000 imiles

To answer about the sixes they started out with the inline and then when they facelifted the car in 1998 or 1999 they introduced a 2.4 and 2.8 V6 with twin plugs and three valves per cylinder. As I say the inline engine is a peach.

We had an R plate C240 come in on the scrappage scheme the other week. One owner, 70000 miles, a comprehensive service history and a smooth 6 cylinder engine.

I took a long into a C-class recently. Fabia trunk I think. :D

Seems a travesty to scrap a C240 with such low mileage: and they call this a green scheme:outrageous as that car probably has another 200k in it with tlc.

Yep, horrendous. So there's no opportunity for the dealers that get such cars in to sell them on, or send to auction? Just seems crazy that such examples MUST be sent to the scrappers.

Talking of C-Class, one of these flew past me on the motorway today, at autobahn speeds.

And then burbled away from the next roundabout when we caught up at the lights

Mercedes C 63 AMG

Absolutely gorgeous and not a bad way to blow £50k!!!

That engine is just stunning and the noise! I have seen a CLS 63 AMG with the same engine in and it was just mind blowing how effortless it was at getting up to speed!

Phil

I have recently sold my octavia as im doing millions of motorway miles...I got a C220 CDI which I get 500 miles from £45.

I got a 2002 W203 and I have to say its great to drive and cruise around in. I had a 3 series and a 5 series before the skoda and it drives better than the Beemers. I searched long and hard the a manual box to avoid the auto breaking, its not the best box in the world and coming from big brakes on the octy I do miss them now.

I got a really dark green colour which I wasnt too sure about but after copious amounts of tcut and polish it looks ok now, and I have put some big AMG wheels on it (the mainly solid ones)

Matt ( a real AMG would be nice)

How do find hill starts in a manual Merc? :)

:rofl::rofl:

A bit of deft footwork is required :D

It is amusing, but I was being serious at the same time :)

It does require the driver to have three feet. I know I've tried it!

Or to get right to the biting point, engage the gear while at the same time pinging the handbrake off - the result is usually quite a swift start; you just have to hope that nothing's appeared in the way since you started
