knock/squeek noise

Featured Replies

hi there, when the car is stationary and i turn the steering wheel a little quickly from side to side theres a knock and a squeek. im only turn steering wheel a few inches. sound seems to be coming from gear leaver/under radio area. any ideas. im thinking ARB maybe. car also makes the noise when taking up or letting off power and have had odd clunk when i turn for corners. dont think its engine mounts as it dont do it over bumps .any other ideas.

just had a mate who knows a bit about cars. the knocking noise is coming from the steering wrack, the knock can be felt through the steering arm and is most prominent on the driver side. what could problem be? or does it just mean the wrack needs replacing? sounds expensive is it?

it will be rare for a steering rack to worn, if there is play it will usually be the track rods on the rack or the track rod ends

other areas to check are the console bushes, ARB bushes and drop links

took it to local indi dealer he says it could be the ball joint on the end of the steering arms but also recomended jacking it up an doing a full tightness check of all suspension and steering. a mechanically minded mate says the squeek sounds bushy to him but will sort knocking out first.
