Fabia SDI X Reg: 2nd Clutch almost gone < 12k use

Does anyone know if there is a known issue with anything clutch related with the early Fabia's, especially the SDi?

We've had ours from new on a X reg, the wife drives it daily. At about 58k we had the clutch pedal bite point at the top of it's travel. We got the clutch changed (Luk - very very soft) and everything was fine.

We are now just past 70k and the clutch is back at the top for it's biting point. I don't think it'll make Christmas at this rate. 12k on one clutch is mental.

Any ideas?

The clutch is hydraulic, so ought to bite at the same point, however worn the plates are as far as I know. When you had the clutch replaced, did you ask for it to be done specifically, or did the garage do some fault-finding? Only it sounds to me maybe as if a problem with the clutch hydraulics might be the reason for the pedal behaving as it does...

Agree with apOgee there seems more like hydraulics than the clutch again.

I asked for it specifically. I was getting bearing noise as well (with the first clutch). The biting point returned to the correct position once the clutch was replaced. I'm loathed to take it into the local Skoda dealer as they are seriously expensive.

I'll look into this a bit further. I know you can bleed the hydraulics, but I would have thought that it would require more travel to get to the biting point if there was air in there.. like brakes.

It's not something I know masses about, but unless your other half rides the clutch all the time, the clutch plates ought to be OK after just 12k...

Bite point is high on our SDI and always has been. 86K. Our 1.4 TDI is a little lower, but not much, and has been that way for 120K. Can you compare with another SDI? You may be worrying yourself without cause.

I don't know anyone local with another. Perhaps I just need to leave it for the time being. Is yours near the top of the travel?

Yes, Very high. My son has a mini and always complains if he drives the Fabias. Never had any slip or other problems. Best of luck

Thanks for the info, it helps. It's a bit wierd, my other car is a Fabia VRS and that has the biting point half way down. (yes I've got two Furbies). The only difference between the hydraulics is that the early cars have a different pedal stop (according to the haynes manual).

I'll hang on stripping it down until it actually starts to slip, hopefully in a 100k or so ;)
