Volkswagen T5 woes...

Featured Replies

That piston in the second pic looks like it's started to melt. Certainly doesn't look healthy compared to the others.

with a piston melting like that i'd say one one of the under-piston oil spray jets may be clogged up or it's completely fallen off

I have the same 2.5 lump in my Transporter, and was told by VW that the engine is a gear driven cam, so how hard that is to set up is your guess.

Anyway, I would wander over to this forum....VW T4 Forum

Join them, and ask away on the T5 section.:)

I did ask on the T5 forum, but they are not as friendly or knowledgeable as you lot - I got about 4 or 5 replies in total!

Update - the ECU was returned and found to be 100% faultless. So the next stage was to replace the Cam sensor at a cost of about £82 ish; and the van STILL won't run.

The garage are now totally at a loss as to what to do and are going to call in a "Master VW Tech" to look at it next week, so f*** knows how much it's going to cost me then...

you do not need the camshaft sensor plugged in for the engine to run, it should be able to run solely off the crank sensor and vice versa, but obviously it will show an error/check light

:rotz:

as a matter of interest was the van a runner before the engine blew up?? i suppose they have checked the most basic of things like the fuel pump relay and fuse? iirc you can do a test on vag-com to check the fuel pump relay.. it might sound daft but if the thing runs on easy-start then clearly it is not a mechanical fault and it is a fuel supply problem..

Have the garage definitely checked the fuel pump relay & fuse, as Tom suggests.

I hadn't noticed you mention it in your updates

cheers ... Darren

Don't know, but I've just suggested it! I would imagine they have, as they've had a Bosch technician do a diagnostics check on it...

diagnostics check wont tell you an aweful lot of is it is a fuse gone, however you should be able to do a output test on the fuel pump relay using vag-com or similar
