just done the cage mod yesterday.

Featured Replies

it really worked for my car. its given it a new lease of life. the car is revving more freely and much more responsive. i've got a fabia 1.9tdi pd at 107000miles at the moment. was a bit tricky to disconnect the connector. the reason i didn't do it earlier was coz i didn't know what the hell the mod was!

Did it to my 74,000 mile Fabia (1.9tdi 100bhp).

Did nothing at all!

Great mod this one and really works too

Thanks Basil for originally posting this mod on here.

Is this the one where you spray the DMF with some sort of cleaner?

Big Mickey - No - don't do that! Search gives info, but basically you put silicone grease into the connector and it stops the poor connection parts sending a signal thus allowing the clean connections to give a good signal. Did it when Bas first posted it and found noticeable difference with cold engine smoothness.

I did it to my old polo, didn'y notice anything.

Tried on the vrs and gave up as i couldn't get the bloody clip open :(

I'm the same as you pip....

I went to maplins.... Bought the gunge..... Literally cut my finger trying to undo the effing clip.

Thought "sod this for a laugh..." and knocked it on the head...

I couldn't get a decent view of the underside of the clip and simply could not shift it....

I am baffled by this clip and would like to do the mod but don't want to break it.

I read the thread on this topic but am still none the wiser.

its the same clip on the polo, but you can see it as the vrs is upside down, i tried everything.

i'm sure someone could give us a heads up on what were doing wrong.

btw, i have read the how to, just cant get it off :(

Err no it isn't lol

I think you got yer DMF's and MAF's mixed up there ;)

I've not done it but you may need to push the plug in before you try and unclip it. Like you're trying to push the plug further onto the pins. Similar sort of thing to how you undo the ABS sensor clips.

Haha, yeah that's the one. :D

I felt no difference having done the 'mod' which leads me to the question...mine is well serviced, not thrashed and generally well looked after, no more than 80mph on the motorway, not ragged around the city etc etc.

So im not having a go at all as everyone on this site looks after their cars a lot more than Joe Bloggs but are the cars which run so much better after the mod the ones that are maybe driven a little hard???

No doubt your egr will be full of cr@p then!
