I always like to see the camshaft open to the elements.

Reduces noise slightly as it's padded underneath. Prevents numpties from burning fingers while checking oil level

After a few years it is also the source of the material coming through the vents (the padding underneath the cover degrades over time)

depends on the engine...leave it on cos the 1.9TDI looks pants
