Knocking noise from passenger side

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have had a knocking noise for sometime from the passenger side on the front end, it happened after I had coilovers fitted. I got it checked out and was told it was the top mount which I had ordered from skoda.

Then today, I have the tracking done. When its all done and I drive it down the road, something very odd is happening... If I am not accelerating at all, the steering is fine, it just pulls slightly to the left (which is normal i guess). If I accelerate (even a tiny amount), it would start to pull to the right quite alot..

So I took it back to ATS (who done the tracking) and the guy says oh, it looks like the tracking it out by a fair bit, I have adjusted it again but I think you may have a bad engine mount or something that might have knocked the tracking out..

The car drives alot better now but he has worried me with the engine mount comment. Is it possible that a bad engine mount would screw the tracking after only a mile of driving? I dont feel any vibrations or anything, just had the slight knock on the passenger side (which only appears if you really accelerate hard round a corner), I was told this was the top mount..

Any advice you guys can give would be helpful.

Thanks,

Tony

When you got the coilovers fitted did you get a four wheel alignment done after?

The reason I am asking is if the subframe was disturbed the suspension may be out of true to begin with, and no amount of tracking adjustment will compensate for this.

The problem could be caused by worn/bent/loose components in the suspension or steering gear, but I am just wondering if there was a baseline established when the coilovers were fitted, as i am presuming from your post that things were fine before.

I had a new steering rack and alignment after the suspension was fitted. But since then I had a new clutch fitted which took out the tracking again. However, I have always had that knocking noise since fitting the coilovers, dont remember hearing a knocking noise before fitting them.

Would be worth checking the drop links & the anti roll bar bushes, they could have been on there way out before you fitted the coilovers, Regards Jason.

I had standard replacement springs fitted when one of mine snapped and my passenger side creaks and knocks like a goodun, I had the top mount bearing and console bushes changed and its still the same, its driving me mad at the moment!

I had the same problem with the coil overs. It was the drop links actually hitting the drive shafts when going over bumps (i had the suspension wound down too much i guess)

Anyway this caused the droplinks to twist and nacker the bottom bearing bit. Alot of the guys on here fit shorter drop links from other cars to stop this, hopefully someone will clarify what ones it is, but im sure mondeo ones are ok.
