Repairing Busted MS Backup Files

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any tools that can fix a corrupt MS Backup .bkf file? Preferably for not much cash or free!!

My dad's hard drive failed and I have a 600Mb MS Backup file of holiday photos and stuff that I can't restore :(

I've found BKFRecovery and RepairMyBackup but they are $97 and $399 respectively.

Any ideas?

How do you know its corrupted? does it give any err messages?

Hi Rob,

Always worth a look on www.tek-tips.com for advice on this sort of thing.

I found this thread which seems to have a few ideas. You may have to register first to see it.

I just came to the same conclusion. The DOS Utility in the link Jane sent looks good though. I just dumped 938 files out of the backup and it looks like the photos and stuff are all there.

Thanks Jane :D:D:D

By the way - I know it's corrupt 'cos MS Backup flatly refuses to touch it! - "The file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used"
