Paint correction / Detailing

Featured Replies

Lately i have become interested in reading about paint correction and detailing vehicles.I understand this is a skilled job but i have a question that i hope someone could answer.

Say for instance there are some RDS on one side of a bonnet. Would you correct the paintwork on just that side before applying a sealant/gloss etc to the whole bonnet or would you do the whole bonnet therefor reducing the layer of paint consitantly as opposed to one side? I would have thought that if you were to correct one side and not the other it would give an uneven finish when polished or would the machine polish take care of the side that wasnt protected?

Thanks for you views and help.

visit detailing world or ask baker21 would be my advice. I'm sure he'll be along soon...

RDS correction is usually done on a very local area on the paintwork. The more clearcoat you leave behind the better, you don't want to take too much off anywhere. Since you are only removing a few microns of clearcoat, you will not notice any difference in the finish between heavily worked areas, and areas that have simply been polished.

Golden rule, start with the least aggressive compound and pad combination, and use more aggressive stuff if you are not getting the correction required.

You'd correct the whole panel:thumbup:

+1...........

Thanks guys.

So in correcting the whole panel you would use a softer compound of pad and polish to the area that didnt have RDS to even out the surface?

Thanks guys.

I'm sure you'll have other paint defects over the rest of the panel so yes start with a light abrasive polish/pad combo and work up from there until you achieve the required correction & a defect free panel.
