Trouble with vag com.

Featured Replies

I wonder if someone could help me please? I have an Octavia vrs tfsi 07 and the engine management light has just come on. The car seems to be driving absolutely fine. Tried to plug in a vag com diagnostic box, but this came up with a message which said it didn't receive any data/didn't recognise vehicle. We then tried the box on a Golf, and it was reading fine.

I am not sure whether this could be a software update issue or connecting lead. I would appreciate any information that anyone could give me before returning car to main dealer and paying fees.

Thanks Omni

Sorry vag com .

What's more, with an 07 Octavia you need a CAN-capable cable- so you *need* a genuine cable and as Simbo says, a recent copy of VCDS.

Thanks guys , it is a genuine ross tech cable but 3 years old so i guessing need to buy new cable and update from ross tech . Making sokme sense now thought i was having a funny 5 mins.

You need either a HEX+CAN or Micro-CAN cable. The Micro-CAN *only* works on newer cars (Golf 5/Octy II/Leon II onwards etc), so if you have any older VAG cars you need HEX+CAN. Fortunately I bought one of those so didn't need a new cable for the Leon.
