2.0 TSI vs 2.0 TFSI

Featured Replies

IHI Turbo ? First i've heard of this.... from what I've read VAG are still using KKK/Garrett K03 ?

It's a new one on me as well...

Steve

It is an IHI. Friend of mine has the TSI and we wondered whether it still had the K03. It doesnt, it has a slightly bigger IHI.

TSI introduced in the interior facelifted modells. As well as in the special edition for the GB market.

Biggest pro, next to the chaindrive, is the IHI turbo (which is bigger than the K03, but smaller than the K04). This makes the TSI easier to chip (bigger poweroutput without mods on the engine).

If the 1.8TSI has the IHI then all I can say is "Amen to that, brother". MED17.5 ecu seems to be a step forward as well.

IHI make good turbos. Many subaru models use them - I installed an nice VF34 in my scooby earlier in the year. Vroooooom!

KKK make good turbos too. You'll find two of them in a 997 Porsche 911 Turbo...

According to Wikipedia, which I know is not the most reliable thing in the world, the TSI is fitted with a " BorgWarner K03 watercooled turbocharger"

This is for engines "CAEA, CAWB, CCZA, CDNB, CDNC " Is this the TSI unit code?

According to my own eyes, it is an IHI turbo. Checked it and seen it, believe me. :o

And as already said, it is a bit bigger than the K03. Friend of mine had it on a rolling road and it pushed 229HP std and chipped (on the same rolling road) 272HP. Had this confirmed by another tuner on the board in Germany, that the newer TSIs (because of the IHI) will perform better after chipping than the older TFSI.

Maybe the UK motors don't get IHI turbos. I'll check my 1.8TSI when it arrives. Incidently how/where did you see the markings on the turbo to show it was an IHI ?

I wonder if Skoda would be considering fitting the MKVI GTI 155kW 2.0 TSI motor to the vRS? C'mon Skoda, we know you're reading these forums! How 'bout it then eh? :D
