intermittent misfire/eng management light

Featured Replies

well timing belt kit, water pump, thermostat all fitted and car started first time.

i have now got a intermittent misfire, up to 3000 revs then it runs sweet and pulls like a train. on return from test drive engine management light came up.

pulling my hair out now, any ideas, anyone???

is it possible the timing belt is 1 cog out of place? I believe this can cause running issues. other than that check you plugs and get the codes read to find out which cylinder is missfiring then swap coilpack to another and go for a test then read codes again to see if it moved with the coil? HTH

surely if it was a spark plug or one of the coil packs it would do it throughout the whole rev range...

What's the actual code you get?

not had car on any diagnostics yet, still trying to sort that one out... any1 local in glasgow got computer to hang onto my motor an tell me what,s up....

not on a turbo car. as the boost levels change the combustion dynamics change. On mine I had an issue but only over 10PSI which was largely down to the plug gap of the Bosch Super 4's I was running.

Coils tend to be affected by heat as well, or at least the cables can be, causes the covering to get brittle and fall off exposing the wire and causing shorts.

someone keeps moving the damn keys?

Got a Mk1 Octavia VRS had the belt done and the engine light also came on. On mine it was because it was one cog out. Pain because I then had to take it all to bits again and realign the belt.

It ran fine one cog out though with no hesitation. I know the mass air flow meters (MAF) is very delicate and sensitive and that has to be removed when doing the belt, chances are that is why its hesitating.

If you unplug the MAF it will use preset factory settings for calculating the air to fuel mixture, so if it runs better without the MAF plugged in that is your problem!...Dont run it for long periods without the MAF though, as it becomes abit of a gas gussler!

Which timming marks did you use ????

Camshaft v crankshaft sprocket ??, or camshaft v flywheel??

If you have'nt already done it, recheck the timing using the camshaft and flywheel.

The flywheel method is very precise due to the greater dia of the flywheel compared to that of the crankshaft sprocket.

Bob

Have you fixed it yet  and what was wrong with it ??????

Edit
