EPC Warning light on 1.4 16v AUB engine

Featured Replies

My 2001 furby has thrown a hissy fit, and now proudly shows the EPC light on the dash. :mad:

I have no other symptoms, and the manual rather helpful says take it to the dealer. I've done a search, and after skimming through the 500 results for warning light and 0 results for EPC I am none the wiser.

I have PM'd the guy in Leeds on the VAG-COM map, but he hasn't been on here since 2007, so I am not holding my breath.

The main question at this point is should I still be driving it, and secondly any ideas on the cause and possible fixes to try prior to getting some fault codes out of VAG-COM (I may have to travel further afield to get a friendly briskodian with VAG-COM)

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated:thumbup:

As said, can often be something simple as it represents a host of faults.

Mine came on once in a traffic jam, drove until I could pull over and it was fine, no loss of power etc and went away when restarted.

Can't offer any suggestions for the cause other than to check that your brake lights are working as a faulty switch can put a warning light on which I think could be the EPC.

I bought one of these off Ebay for fault finding and putting lights off;

VW AUDI SEAT SKODA OBD-2 CAN FAULT CODE READER VAG U281 on eBay (end time 27-Nov-09 05:35:01 GMT)

Even if the brake lights are working the switch could still be duff, it's a two pole switch, one set of contacts for the lights, one set for the EPC. Not sure what else could bring the light on, but I don't think it's all that important.

Other than the brake lights, you need a code read.

Thanks for the quick replies guys:thumbup:

I have just checked, and I have no brake lights:eek:

Must be the switch has failed or needs attention. Off to the dealers tomorrow for a new switch (I now know that this is on its at least 2nd revision) as can't be too expensive and this appears to be a very known issue.

The search on here doesn't seem to be working all that well, as when I put in "brake light switch" I got loads of threads which talked about the EPC light, but they don't appear when you put in "EPC":confused:

Will invest in one of those scanners if I need to clear the fault once I have replaced the switch.

EDIT: there is also this guide http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/brake-light-switch/32460/ on here for swapping the switch out if this helps anybody else with the same problem
