Had one of these fitted last December while car was in for service at Awesome, does feel different but in a positive way, i found the biggest improvement was 2nd to 3rd change. Well worth doing.:thumbup:

Hi , mostly to guys who had it done-

andy68 and RobClubley, guys pay attention

I am after a short shifter kit and there are two possibilities in the engine bay

1. one without counter weight

adjustable

Forge

Diesel Geek

http://www.dieselgee...t/Detail?no=277

2. with the counter weight

a. non adjustable

Neuspeed

b. adjustable

BBM HVA-303 02J short throw shifter

3. Shift Linkage Bushing Pair, Density Line, MkIV VW 5 & 6-speed

Like first I would like you two to describe how does the difference without counter weight feel like??

Being positive or good needs further technical explanation.

My gues is that there needs to be combined more than one kit.

Here is what I think. The best one is from Diesel geek-incorporate x and y axis, has changed linkage

(no bushing replacement needed) and only one down side is that it has no counter weight.

The best one with counter weight is from BBM because it is adjustable (has two holes) for 20 and 35-40% reduction. Two holes is also better solution than one oval one because it reduces risk by hard driving strong car of moving that shaft along that ova. Do you all agree???

So I will ask diesel geek if I can incorporate BBM with their kit mostly regarding connection on ball or pin point.

When they let me know I'll share it with you and go for it together with interior moddification

4. B&M 45114 short shifter kit

here are some links for the best priced ones

http://www.importperformanceparts.net/

http://www.morepower...104-99-367-981/

That reduces front and back throw by 25%

So please your oppinion regarding what I have written.

Sarah you are welcome to comment it toemoticon-0144-nod.gif.

For those who would like to retain softer gear shift and knob feel they should not go for diesel geek, because they removed rubber bushings.

So it will be best to combine

best short shifter (has adjustabuility and counter weight)

1. BBM HVA 303 02J short shifter-shortens Y axis

http://www.bahnbrenn...t_Throw_Shifter

together with

2. JSP X-Axis Upgrade SS Kit- shorter X axis

http://www.jsperform...1627fc5e98a83c4

Compatible with JSP, HPA Motorsports, and Neuspeed short shifters.

and than if you wont to go for a firmer feel you can

3. www.034motorsport.com Shift Linkage Bushing Pair, Density Line

http://www.034motors...345k01noss6km83

for the pin-style shifter linkage bushings 2002 on, and for early ball style pre 2001 you should, I think, simply ask them to do one for you.

So this was my observation regarding short shifters without even trying them but ussin common sense before ordering anything to get the best of all possibilities as I alway do.

Comments please and experience to be shared with

I installed the Forge shifter, plus new solid bushings from 42 Draft Designs and Verdict motorsports.

The gear change has a shorter throw and feels much more precise. The notchiness I had going into second has gone. Not sure how to describe it technically. It feels like I'm more connected to the gearchange, definitely an improvement.

Hi

great new stuff

I have just bought

verdictmotorsport Shift Bracket Bushings thanks to your post.

and unfortunatelly it seems that I cant use 42DD Bushings because theY are only for

pin style linkage and I have ball one.

But QUESTION

If I take BBM one or Forge that is modular and can accept pin and ball ones and

I ,lets say, change ends for the one that are for pin linkage than theoreticaly I can use 42DD, right???

Can I change my linkage from ball type to pin one????

Who can answer that are they only matter of choice and if I change both linkages and shifter can that make any damage???

That is also what 42DD suggests here

"If you have an early Mk4, the only option is to upgrade your linkages and end links to the pin/clip style."

http://42draftdesign...shings.html#mk4

Any one knows ETKA part numbers of that pin style endlinks??

Regards

Davor

Not going to bother with any of the bushings, happy with the way the Forge shifter works, mine is currently set halfway along the oval bit but going to alter it for a shorter shift, to me the shift feels alot more positive where as the weighted shifers feel a bit more wooly.

Hi

sorry but I am from Croatia and really do not get what wooly means.

Can you explain me a little more difference between non weighted and weighted shifter please

from your experience??
