tyre tread depth

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Can anyone tell me the tyre tread depth when new? I'm trying to work out the life left and whether it would be worth rotating them.

Cheers

Stokey

About 8mm or so usually, I think.

legal limit is 1.6mm i think

Although wet-weather performance has been shown to decrease significantly below 3mm

Aquaplaning on standing water is the big problem for shallow tyre treads, so be wary of that in particular as the tyres get near worn out. New tyres need a good few miles before they give proper grip too...
