Coding for dealer !!!!

Featured Replies

New Octavia is near so asked the saleman to have DRL's activated and auto locking enabled. Blank stare.

Can any of the techs give me the codings for the dealer so when he says DUH, I can tell him the coding and to get it done pronto. I think it's a hex code?

Thanks guys

Hi mate...Did just the same...Dealers x 7 of them did not have a clue what I was on about. Then spoke to VW in Northampton and they said its simple just take it along and they will do it for about 20 quid...But as Skoda should and will do this FOC speak to Arbury Skoda in Leamington Spa, they are very helpful and having mine in this week to have this done...Hope this helps. All they do is plug in to their system dio and re-set the code for European driving...takes about 10 mins..:)

There are a number of choices for DRL . I chose to have the filament bulbs outboard of the fog lights plus the rear lights energised. They can be switched off manually via the indicator stalk.

Gordon Lamb are my main Skoda dealer in Chesterfield and they may be able to advise your dealer of the codes? Apparently not unusual for dealers to be ignorant of these options.:P

This is the same as my Elegance...Two bulbs in fogs....But been having trouble setting from stalk and MFD / MFSW so Arbury are looking at this for me....Also they are supossed to be directional lights when DRLs are off...but this does':rolleyes:nt work either and most as you say sales man don't even know they are in there let alone set them up..

Surely a waste of time speaking to salesman? You need to speak to the service guys.

Or find a friendly local member with VCDS

Yes true but if they are selling something surely they should know about it to:)?

Not sure where you are in Northants, but I'm near Rushden if of help skodabob?

Auto locking is ok. DLR on the FL not done, but willing to have a look - unless someone knows the coding.

Update your profile with some location info and you might find that someone local will offer to sort this out for you! These sorts of things tend to be easier to sort/amend on VCDS than VAS anyway.

Skodabob123 - sorry, for some reason I can't reply to your PM. I'm told you've chosen not to accept PMs, or they've been disabled. So here's the answer to your question:

VCDS or VAG-COM Diagnostic System is the way we connect to the car's electrical systems/modules and ECU. See Ross-Tech: Home - so this is the way people code things into the car, enable settings etc.

VAS is basically the dealer version. These are dedicated systems given to main dealers and are ultimately more powerful, but can also be quite difficult to use. So some dealers actually use VCDS behind the scenes, to code customer cars for auto-locking etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Steve, Yes this helps alot.Thats pretty much as I thought it was so from that they should be able to use codes to set up DRL etc, ? Gadgetman and I are meeting this weekend if dealer unable to resolve issues with new FL Octavia. Nice one and I will check mail settings too....

Oh yes, they should be able to sort that for you. They're not charging for this are they? Because if they are, a member with VCDS is much better :)

No, they are not....! And yes I think VCDS would be better to but as they owe me the honers of doing this...Well you know, when in Rome and all that:D

Fair play

Hi Steve

Arbury Skoda had her on their system today but were unable to work out why DRL's and directional lights in fogs were not working.....? They said that if they had her for a day they would be able to find out...? But why is this so complicated and why have VW said that they can do it 10 mins for 20 quid job done....I really do not understand where the problem is...Help:confused:

This might be a classic example of the VAS 'challenge' I was eluding to earlier!

If it's new to the techs and a request that's not come in before (entirely possible) then it might take them a fair while to muddle through the settings, using your car as the guinea pig :)

To be fair, I've not connected to a car with VCDS that supports DRLs and directionals yet either, so can't comment directly on the ease with which VCDS could cope with it. I'd still wager that it's easier than using VAS though ;)

Obviously if you were closer I'd gladly plug in and take a look for you...

Cheers,

Steve

Hopefully we can meet Sunday and have a look.

Will call either way. Today was simply too crazy with family stuff.

Would this be the same principle for travel/tourist mode lights? The supplement to the new FL manual says it's an option in maxidot, but I don't seem to have it on there.

Yeh, I guess so...Not sure what the set up is for this but it sounds the same...Try contacting gadgetman or local member..found mine very helpful:huep:

Still working on it...but through the help of local members this should be done soon...:bump:

IIRC this only works on Xenon equiped FL's to flat beam them when in the EU. Again IIRC it's born from an EU law coming into effect because xenons are so much brighter.

  • 1 month later...

I've set this feature up on maxidot and it works fine. Don't ask me how I did it, I got into it by accident and can't find my way back in.

My dealership was in total ignorance of DRL set up. They spoke to Gregoir's Chesterfield dealer since I knew he had had them activated. When I later called into my dealer following this, within 5 mins they produced a printout with several options from which I chose one. Two mins. later my car was ready with the DRL control now showing in the Maxidot menu for on or off options - free of charge obviously.

Why Skoda do not deliver the car with their control activated, goodness knows!!!
