1.4 16V Fuel economy?

Featured Replies

Hi!

Im going to buy a Fabia (sometime) and need som mpg figures.

What do you get on the 1.4 16V (85HP) in:

Town:

Mixed:

Highway (75mph):

Country (50mph):

Thanks :)

Will be starting another thread for the two 1.4 TDI's :)

On a mixed route through speed restricted lanes (21 miles) off peak: 43-45 mpg.

Open road (A roads) 55-60 mph: 50 mpg, but can reach 54 mpg.

Motorway 60-70 mph: 48-50 mpg.

Slow traffic: 38-41 mpg

I always found the 1.4 100 BHP to be rather fugal, so would think the 85 BHP should

better it :)

I own a Roomster with 1.4 16V (85HP) engine. It is economical among petrol engines.

Urban Cons: 7.5 liter/100 km

Extra urban: 5 - 5.5

It is leaning towards the 1.4 85HP ...

What mpg do you get on highway +70mph??

So far I've seen the following numbers on that here: 44mpg / 48mpg and I think they sound a bit low for +70mph.

Anyone? I understand that the 1.4 is not very common on this forum.

Id say 44 to 48 isnt achievable at over 70mph. In my 1.2 at 70 its around 42mpg. However the computer will read a tad higher.

My experience with the MkII 1.4i has been slightly disappointing. My old 2006 1.4i 100 hp estate averaged 44.5 mpg (brim the tank at each fill method) while my 2009 1.4i estate averages 40.7 mpg. And the newer vehicle is less lively, although more comfortable.

When are you thinking of buying?

The Fabia is about to be facelifted and as far as I understand, virtually the entire engine range is going to be replaced. If your priority is economy then I'd wait for the new engines....

On the other hand, there should be some cracking deals around on the pre-facelift models for the next 6 months or so as they clear the old stock.

Swings and roundabouts!

Hi, I have a Skoda Fabia 2 08 reg. Its a 1.4TDI PD 80 bhp.

Town - Low to mid 40/ gallon

Mixed - Hi 40 to low 50/ gallon

Country 50mph+ - well over mid 50's sustained

Motorways / Dual Carriageways - at 70 mph - I have had 54 - 56 mpg out of it. If you drop to between 60 and 65 mph, you can achieve 58 - 64mpg. On a run down to Bournemouth last September I averaged 60-65 mph and when we were on Wessex Way it was 69.9mpg.

The above are acievable with careful driving, ie, no harsh braking, acceleration and being in the right gear.

I have found that my car likes being in 4th Gear at 30 mph, it will rapidly climb into the low 50's mpg.

Hope this helps shed a little light on your subject.
