Columbus Version/Part#

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Apologies here, spent quite a while trawling through the various articles to come up with a definitve answer, but have gone around in circles.

I have a new Vrs on order, due at the end of the year (spec listed in signature), I have a Bluetooth kit on order, version C.

With the curent price of Columbus units, I am going to take the plunge & order one from Flea Bay, however, whilst I know firmwares can be changes (preder not to unless I have to), which part # would be the one to go for ?

Thanks in Advance

G

You need the 3T0 Columbus unit.

Please explain. Are the earlier Colombus units not as good?

I am thinking of buying one too.

Cool spec on the new car bandit! :D

Atty is right... unless you get a 1Z0 with (or you install) 2664 firmware on it!

Every bit as good... but prior to 2664 firmware becoming available (whole thread on it here), you had to put a 1Z0 in a pre-FL & a 3T0 in a FL & Superb II or Maxidot wouldn't work. (FL = FaceLift)

That is no longer the case with firmware 2664 - every Columbus becomes a 3T0 & works in either a pre-FL, FL or Superb II :)

Thanks all !

3T0 it is then, £499 from Ebay Skoda MFD3 rns510 columbus navigation sat nav octavia on eBay (end time 12-Nov-09 14:05:45 GMT)

The Spec is a bit indulgent, but its going to be mine for 4 years/120,000 miles whichever comes first, Decided against Diesel as £0.55/mile means I do not have to worry too much about economy.

I thought I did well a few months back at £550... it's a bargain at £499!!!

That's who I got mine from too, the guy's called Justin... decent bloke! :)

Yeah seems a reasonable bloke, I mailed him earlier & he came back pretty quickly, says he has both versions in stock.

Mine is now ordered, going to do a test in my Touran for the time being (has MFD2 currently).

Cheers

will I get the battery drain issue with my 2006 octy if I upgrade my 3T0 to get the maxidot working?

it all depends on the version of the can gateway, my 2005(2006MY) octy has the wrong gateway, so I cannot yet update the firmware to a version higher than the one I am already using. However some new firmware is due soon that should overcome the battery drain problem in earlier cars.

So, should I return the 3T unit and swap it for an earlier unit, or wait.

Can I update the cam to a later spec? is it worth it.

My MFSW & maxidot do not work with the 3T unit.

I'm also looking at getting one of these units, currently have a Nexus and have maxidot (MY57). Is it worth changing, what should I be looking for ie; part numbers or problems and how much would I get for my Nexus ?

Gateway can be upgraded yes, but it should be possible to get the 3T0 unit to work in an 06 car by using VCDS and not updating the firmware. IIRC the BAP protocol may need to be either enabled or disabled.

OK,

Multims, sent me the wrong one (1Z0) when he said he would send the correct one (3T0), it also has damaged aerial inputs (snapped off).

He has now gone into an ignore mail/calls/silent mode for nearly a week,

Have started the Paypal claim process against him (distance selling regs apply as he is a business seller & it was a buy it now).

Who will be the first to say "I told you so"...............

So if you are thinking about buying from this chap, then the old saying Caveat Emptor apllies !

A 1Z0 will still work. Pre 2664 FW you'd need a 1Z0 unit on a pre FL car. Post 2664 either will work.

That sound good to me, I can live with this fw version, which ever it is - it is close to the 2664 one, as it has several of the 'upgrades' like the clock, blanace fader etc.

As long as I can persuade the maxidot to work and the MFSW then i'm happy.

Mike

PS I guess BAP must be something do do with VAG COM. Just need to find somebody local who knows what to do to sort it out.
