Rear door wont close!

Featured Replies

Opened my nearside rear door this eve & when i went to close it it wont stay shut, the lever in the latch wont lock onto the catch on the wheel arch,i had a quick look before the darkness & rain came & cant see anything obvious, the lever in the catch moves ok but wont "click" into the locked position,im planning to look at it sat morn, has anybody else had this happen to them? ive disconnected the wiring so the interior light & dash warning goes out,the door is currently chained to the rear seat mounts to keep it closed! im going to the mph show at the nec on sun! didnt need this now!

This used to happen on my old ZX, try using a screwdriver to see if you can make the mechanism move it may well be stuck because it doesn't get much use. I managed to get it to move on the ZX then applied a load of grease and then opened and shut the door a load of times which cured it.

Strangely though the drivers door used to do it when it was really cold which was very annoying when I was trying to go work early in the morning. I would try and shut the door and it would just bounce open again. Never happened when it was warm.

I have fixed the above fault,i had to strip out the door latch assembly from inside the door & separate the central locking motor from the latch & free off the mechanism that lets the catch lock into position,it took me about a hour & half in total, was a bit fiddly & took a while to work out what lever did what but its fixed & cost me nothing but my time, skoda wanted £85+vat for a new latch mechanism! ive posted the fix in case somebody else has the same problem.
