Just bought 55 PD140, new alloys help

Featured Replies

Hi All, have just bought my dads 2.0 2005 PD140 from him and looking to upgrade the 15" wheels to 17" as three tyres need replacing (original tyres as only covered 24k). Have seen 4 x brand new VW Delta Sun alloys on fleabay for £250 and looking at putting 225 45 17 tyres on them. Does anyone have any advice on fitment, cheap alternatives, whether they think will look ok? Etc.

I have also booked in for 4th year service and cambelt & water pump change at QRSport for £480 inc vat. Does that sound like a good deal? Cheers

Got any photos of the alloys?

On the servicing/belt change, that sounds about right. Where in the country are you?

Steve

Alloys are 5 * 112 fitment.

Same as Golf Mk V, and some Audi models

Thanks to all for replies so far. The Octavia is dark grey metallic. I am near Chester and ideally looking for max of £400-450, but ideally some cheaper 2nd hand bargains!! Have to say, have been very impressed with the Octavia..drives much better than 3.2 GSI Vectra it has replaced..

The 17" Skoda Pegasus really suits the car, its a fantastic looking wheel.

Is your price ceiling with or without tyres ?

Thanks for all the updates. My ceiling price will be with tyres, the brand new VW Delta Suns were going for £250 without tyres, so looks like p\w or budget tyres. Will also check out the Pegasus tyres also...cheers to all.

Also, the DeltaSun alloys are these:

Whatever you do, don't use cheap and nasty tyres. Spend a little more to get quality tyres from somebody outside the big brands

..........and a personal gripe of mine are cheap and nasty ebay alloy wheel packages for £350 for 4 x 18 with tyres. Crap - walk away.

Cheap tyres are downright dangerous, especially in the wet and you could quickly regret a decision...... when you;ve just broen a wishbone after hitting a kerb in wet because of terminal understeer................

Buy a decent second hand set of OEM alloys and part worn good tyres. Keep an eye on Freedom / For Sale - I just sold a brand new set of 17" Zeniths with Potenzas for £450. .........

Just goes to show whats out there. Bide your time and buy wisely young Pandawan....;)

"..young Pandawan"....lol, not sure if being 34 years old is appropriate to the comment. Thanks to all for the posts, I have no intention of buying cheap Chinese alloys, hence why was looking at the genuine VW Deltasun alloys. Agree with the comments on cheap rubber, have been caught out before so will try and source some quality rubber at a cheaper price.

I'd agree with all the above comments. Decent tyres will cost almost £400 fitted, which makes mine an absolute steal, if only you fancied going the whole hog up to 18's

Ah sorry Brimma - didn't click about your wheels - nice set and with my current fave tyre Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas too!

Buy these!!!!

Also avoids any possible insurance issues as they are OEM..........
