Display light dimming randomly.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I've only had my Octavia vrs Mk1 a week but have just noticed something. The Illumination britness of the diplays seems to go dimmer then brighter randomly. Not my much and it seems to be only when the wipers are on. Is this normal? Also i have a realy bad radio reception, the car came with an aftermarket CD/TV fitted, Any ideas?

Bad radio reception is a common problem with aftermarket radios, as they are not able to power the aerial amp built into the base of the antenna. You need to get a small adapter from halfords which basically adds an aerial amp to the setup.

On the reception issue, the standard-fit stereos have a built-in signal booster, which aftermarket ones don't have. Sounds like you'll need to get one if you want to listen to the radio. As for the displays and wipers, it sounds like a job for a voltmeter and some patience... :ne_nau:

Thanks guys, i'll pop into Halfrauds and have a word. As for the Illumination of the dials, it's barely even noticeable to be honest, i'm just extremely nervous for the first couple of weeks of owning a car. I had my lights on, wipers and indicators at the time i noticed the lights dimming so i'm sure it's just me being paranoid. Thanks for the info guys.

Dimming lights might be caused by a poor earthing connection, or maybe the battery is on the edge of failing. I normally find that winding electric windows up till they stop and keeping my finger on the switch for another second or so causes the lights to dim. I guess it is the extra load the window motor is drawing.

I can make the display on my pioneer headunit flicker if the volume is toooooo loud :-)
