philips led daytime running lights

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just back from the Top Gear show at the NEC. Wondering round I noticed the powerbulbs stand with leaflets on Philips aftermarket drl's. £169 from their website before BRISKODA discount of 15%. Has anyone got these? Are they easy to install?Leaflet states it has a simple click installation with plug and play connection onto the battery. Are they worth it?

Seems a lot of money for what it is to me.

I would guess they use the same LED technology as the OEM units do hence the price. There are cheap LEDs and then there are decent LEDs.

They probably have voltage stabilisation circuitry to prolong their life as well.

The ECE R87 compliance probably adds to the price.

There's not that much info on the kit on the web page, but, as DRL has to switch off when lights are switched on, the kit may incorporate this switching - otherrwise you need to install a relay to make this work.

Yep, that's the ones. The brochure states the simple click connection has a philips electronic control device to allow a simple plug and play connection onto the battery for the automatic on/off function. Car shown in the brochure looks like a Volvo v70 which has a front end not to different to the octy. I noticed the spec sheet on it advising about the measurements etc. I think if you would like the aftermarket version you will have to pay the extra money to get a quality version, not some cheap tacky thing which will do nothing for the car. That price cant be far off the cost of the originals on the new ones anyway surely?

Chavtastic!, I wonder if they do matching illuminated washer jets !

think they should only bo on cars as OE not as an add on tbh :)

Not sure what you're on about there, DRLs do not have to be switched off when the the lights are switched on.....

Anyways, IMHO I think LEDs do look rather chavy, especially when they are so obviously aftermarket, and at £170 this kit is WAY overpriced, even alowing for the E mark.

Try this instead....

Might mean a bit of effort but it can all be done for less than £30.

aftermarket ones do look a bit daft but audi OE ones are cool.......oh im biast tho ha
