Unusual problem with 2001 Octavia?

Featured Replies

The dashboard lights now operate in reverse.

They come on when the ignition is switched off and turn off when the ignition is switched on.

This only becomes a major issue after dark, as the display is dark, so I cannot see the speedometer, although the system lights, oil water etc will illuminate properly. The problem appeared after a thunderstorm on the weekend. Has anyone else experienced anything similar and found a solution?

Try disconnecting the battery for a minute or so - sounds like the ECU for the dash needs resetting...

Hi and Thanks for the reply. I removed the battery for 1/2 hour to see and it made no difference.

I then drove home for about 4 hours without dashboard lights.

Went out to prep the car tonight, left the sidelights on for about 15 mins and the dash started behaving correctly...

No idea's at all, but it seems okay atm.

No doubts it will go pear shaped again and it will cost a gazillion pounds to fix.

Thanks also for the "key maybe upside down" suggestion. That did give me a laugh.

All the best.
