Goodyear Excellence or Falken Ziex ZE-912

Featured Replies

Trying to decide between these two tyres. Very similar price on black circles and just want to know which will offer the best compromise of grip and wear rate - I do a lot of miles in my TDi elegance so don't need exceptional handling but they need to wear well while being OK on A and B roads thanks for any help andrew

I've heard good things about the goodyears and I ran the 452 which were a good summer tyre. The 912 I'm less sure of. For my money probably the goodyears.

had goodyear excellence on the fabia vRS, and they were very good :) at least as good as other leading brands...

thanks for the replies - I'll probably go for the goodyears.

I need 2 rear tyres and everyone i ring seems to push Mitchilin saying they are the best, on the front I am running goodyear NCT5`s but i think these have been replaced with the excellence range. Is there a massive difference between goodyears and mitchilins Good thread this, cheers

I'm just about to replace the bridgestones on my MKII combi and I'm looking at the falken 912 or 452. I had the Goodyear excellence's on my previous Octavia and they were nothing special, better than the original Dunlops though.

I don't know how accurate these reviews are, but I have been looking on this site:http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/

I have been looking at prices on event tyres, they seem to be pretty good, has anyone an experience with this company?

Mini had Goodyear Excellence on as OE. Had two sets, both suffered fast shoulder wear. Good grip wet or dry, but not great for wear.

Replaced with a set of 912. Wear is better on the 912, a lot better. Dry grip is slightly less good than the Goodyears, wet grip also a bit less good too. However, the 912 are very progressive, so the car is not really any slower point to point in most situations and is actually better balanced and more fun.

Price wise, shop around for the 912, you should get them for less than 60% of the Goodyears.

FWIW I think the excellence have been replaced with Optigrip and Efficient grips (Energy saver tyre)

I did go for the excellences in the end. So far seem fine, not too bad for a non-winter tyre in the snow as well - even in -3C the rubber had some give in it (though this doesn't look too good for long term wear.

In the end I only paid a couple of pounds more for each tyre by going with the goodyear vs the falkens (guess a bit of brand snobbery came out!) from blackcircles.

will give an update after a few more '000 miles to give an idea of wear rates

Funnily enough, snow is the only situation where the 912 betters the grip of the Goodyears. Reckon you will be happy with the Goodyears generally though, really good tyre.

have just had 2 new 452's fitted on the fronts on my vrs. We've had some pretty bad snow up here and the grip has been better than expected on a £63 tyre (camskill.co.uk), all the more impressive saying that they were fitted on fri and so have had to scrub in, in snow and ice conditions!!!

Needless to say i've not had chance to try them in the dry so cant comment on how they perform against the contis that were previously on it.

I think the excellence have been replaced with Optigrip

Optigrip replaces Hydragrip, (which I think was particularly good in the wet even when worn, and I'm hoping the Optigrips are at least as good in that respect).
