Driving on the m8 yesterday, on the way to sign the lease on the flat i'm moving to.All of a sudden, loud clanking from the engine bay, oil light on and a distinct lack of power...

Had to ditch the car at a friends house, and get my girlfriend in her R reg Clio(:EEK! to come collect me

.It sounds terminal, so dont think I'll be doing much-so much for the cheap runaround! whoever said green cars aint lucky wasnt far wrong!

Oh dear... doesn't sound good!

My last engine failed in a similar way although it was more of a gradual failure. Started knocking very bad then quickly got worse while I was driving to the garage for them to have a look. Oil light on then the engine conked out and wouldn't re-start. I think it was big end failure or similar but didn't have the opportunity to strip the engine down to have a look.

If it helps I got a decent 2nd hand engine with 50,000 on for £170 delivered.
