Aquamist

Featured Replies

Does anyone have aquamist fitted-is there any downside to forced cold air induction?

Not yet.....

Has anyone considered water/methanol fluid (AL-24 - stores ref 34B/9440428) as used to help increase the maximum boost of the Griffon engine from 67 inches to 80 inches of manifold pressure. (I will leave that to someone else to convert into psi or bars). There must be a few spare injection kits lying around now that the Shackleton has been retired from Service. Water/methanol fluid worked wonders reducing charge temperature (maximum 90

Okay , whos gonna be the 1st to fit an aviation injection kit and supercharger to their 1.8T??? (or how about the whole Merlin/Griffon engine!? :) )

I considered it, but the cost of replacing 24 platinum plugs per engine put me off. Plus AVGAS 100/130 - AVGAS 115/145 is optional but expect to see fouled plugs and a hefty bill for cleaning them - is even harder to come by at filling stations than Optimax. :(

Does anyone remember that chap who put an aircraft engine in a RR lookalike? (Well, the radiator grill was from a RR which upset that company at the time). Not sure if the engine was a Merlin, but the performance in a straight line must have been awesome - assuming that the car didn't flip over due to torque reaction when the throttle was blipped...eek.gif

Yes i remember that , and it was a Merlin! It had , i think 3 or 4 fuel pumps to keep up the pressure and did 4 gallons a mile!!!! Last i heard of it the owner had emigrated to Spain and taken it over there. I believe RR got very cross indeed about the grille and 'spirit of exctacy' on the front and they had to be altered slighty!

Depends on the working fluid in the manometer. I'd guess it would be mercury:-

80" - 67" = 13"

13" water = 0.03bar or 0.47 psi

13" mercury = 0.44 bar or 6.39 psi (which sounds like the sort of pressure used in a 150HP 1.8T engine).

Remember also that aero engines are much more conservatively rated than car engines (for obvious reasons!)

Are you talking about that mad yellow car with the huge bonnet?
