I've had my car for 3 and a bit weeks now. First problem was the pasenger side bulb going out and coming back on, bringing dash warning light on. I changed the bulb this weekend and noticed the connetor is a broke, but this seems to be working and now connecting fine. New problem is the following. It's bee cold the last few nights, get in car at 10pm to go home, starts fine. Put fans on 4, heater to hot and on windowscreen, lights on, rear heater on, stereo on as usual. Stereo lights go out and stops working, stereo lights flash, no noise. This stayed like this until half way home(5mins) until rear heater off, fans down to 3 and lights still on. Why? Battery? Thinking of getting it changed, I've read else where, but poer steering seem's fine.Idea's or anyone had this? James

Could be battery failing under load. Code scan may tell you more. Worth having the alternator charge checked as well, as there is a common fault, where a wire breaks at a connector on the gearbox (Alternator sense wire)

Had battery replaced this morning, Old one got just over 12v. Car starts fine and has never had a problem. Stereo is the problem, keeps flashing with no sound, then at some point in the journey comes on. Will have alternator checked out. Any other idea's whist the garage has it?

Sounds like it's the stereo or its wiring, not the car TBH. If it's the stock one, a dealer or VAGCOM-equipped person will be able to scan it as well as the rest of the car...

Spoke to arrenty company, car booked in to national nationwide autocenter tommorrow, want them to look at alternator output, and also hook up to vagcom. But drove to work today 1pm dry cold, no stereo. Drove car home, wet, cold ish. Stereo didn't work to begin, but noticed button on right side of stero flashed red. it's the single right pointing arrow. pressed it, stereo worked. Stopped car twice on way home. witched engine off, stereo fine since. Blood thing! Any other idea?

Drove to garage today, stereo fine. Alternator fine, no codes on vagcom. Stereo worked on drive home and drive to work. Got in car to come home tonight, Stereo not working. Lights come on stereo buttons when dashboard lights on, but no display, it blinks on/off but no text or sound, single arrow on right of stereo pointing right flash's red. Then half way home... stereo works. Don't get it. Going back to warranty garage(nationwide autocenters) to see if they have anymore ideas(nice mechanic used to work for skoda -lucky), then on to skoda. I'm coming to the concusion the stereo's at fault.

You may have an early stereo, where the search button is removeable as a security feature. The button may not be correctly located. If you push the button in the centre and release it, it should come out far enough to remove it and then push it back in.

Hasn't there been problems with the fuses on top of the battery burning up on some models ?

The single right pointing arrow on my stereo(bellow the 6 and abbove the double right pointing arrow) FLASH'S RED. This also flash's when the car is switched off or locked. Can someone look at there's and see if it does it too. (kinda looks like immobaliser flash)

Yes it's meant to flash as a security feature. Should stop flashing when stereo turned on.

when the stereo dosn't work, after starting it flash's, have read stereo manual it says that after a voltage interuption it checks the radios security code with the car's. I think this is why the stereo sometimes doesn't work. Seems when the cars left outside on very cold/wet times. But also at the same time the cars computer, mpg, time since, etc resets (not the clock)

Sounds like you have a battery problem.

just had a new battery. Had alterator checked, also had had meter on battery, to see what was being drawn

Next step would be to have the voltage control module tested. Worst case scenario is water in the loom, due to blocked plenum chamber. There are also a couple of earth leads to the bulkhead behind the lower dash.

If you can borrow a digital multimeter with logging capabilities, plug it into the ciggy socket and log the voltage over-night.

Actually trying another stereo would be the easy thing to check.

Just got car back from Skoda, they believe to have found the fault. According to them it's the ignition barrel, new one on order, but takes a few weeks. fingers crossed
