No-fault claim - Will it effect premiums?

Featured Replies

Some berk in a massive minibus has hit my car while parked in a carpark. Nothing is bent, but the front offside wing edge has had paint scraped off it, and it's down to the galvanised metal. And the nearside of the front bumper has some lovely deep scratches down it, down to the black plastic. The rub strip is also badly scratched. Just frustrating really, as he hit 3 cars before hitting mine, and I had to watch the whole thing unveil before me. After he hit the 1st car I started to shout at him but he just kept going until I managed to get over there are collar the nutter. Good thing is that the police showed, and got all his details for me. I've contacted my insurance and all seems in order. A couple of questions though: -They want me to go to an approved repairer (UK Assistance, Normanton, Wakefield), but are they any good? Anyone had any experience of them? -It's a no fault claim for me, as I wasn't even in the car, and the guys admitted fault. But will this effect my premium or no-claims? Stress!!!

It's not supposed to but it will

I had to remove my dad from my policy for a year after his mate hit his car. Non fault but they wanted me to pay £100 a month for him to be on my policy. Come renewal his own premium went up too!

It's a joke! I had a non claim logged on my insurance after just calling for advice. Thankfully directline seen sense and removed it from my record even though it was admiral who put it their. I hate insurance companies! No money changes hands they want an extra amount a year

You're not claiming - it's nothing to do with your insurance, and technically you've not been in an accident... so technically no one needs to know!

I was unaffected by a non-fault claim, after someone ran in the back of me.

My wife was loaded on her premium after someone hit her car in a car park, so maybe it's related to who pays.

Does a bear **** in the woods?

Of course your premium will go up. Mine went up on grounds of a windscreen claim!! Admiral/Elephant are all too keen to add a claim onto a policy, even when asking for advice. :(

Unfortunately though yes, your premium will go up for sure.

Insurer's ask "have you had any accidents or claims in the last 5 years", and the OP will have had neither in relating to this incident.

If it's going through your insurers for the repair then it will affect things, you could even lose your NCD until your insurers recover everything from the other party (This happened to me when I was hit whilst stationary by a coca cola truck in Manchester as the dude was on his phone)

If your insurer is not involved at all and the other party's insurers are sorting it out, then I don't think it would have an impact and Bab's would be correct.

Woop :D

Hmm this doesn't sound promising!

I've gone through my insurance (I thought this was the right thing to do), and they will contact the other guys insurance to pay all the bills. I asked them on the phone if this will effect my NCD or annual premium and he said it shouldn't, as the other insurance company will be paying all the bills (repair, hire car etc). If my broker tries to increase my premiums because of it I will contest it, as I didn't have an accident (I was playing 1vs100 on the xbox at the time!!), and I haven't claimed against my insurance company. But knowing the world of insurance, I expect I'll get screwed somehow.

The ball is already rolling now, so it's too late to go back anyway! The car's getting collected on the weekend so should hopefully get it back at the end of next week.

Today is a sad day for my beloved Scroda! I just want it fixed asap.

Yes, because they will claim that you are now more likely to be driven into by another minibus whilst parked!!

Lol, sounds about right Ken! I should charge them for the trauma of watching my own car being damaged by an idiot!! I'm mentally scarred. I even had a nightmare last night about someone stealing my car, and trying to replace it with one that wasn't mine. Pretty sad! I did get the full on rage when it happened though. If I was the hulk, the guy would be squashed by now. **** happens.......

Thats where the problem creeps in I think mate. When I got hit, I was insured with Direct Line, they arranged for the repair on my car and recovered costs from the 3rd party. Coca Cola dragged their heels in settling and my renewal came up and I had lost a percentage of my no claims until Direct Line recovered their costs from the 3rd parties insurers

I don't think it's as simple as your insurer presenting the workshop bill to the other insurer and having them pay it.

Sorry :(

You will always be asked when taking ouit car insurance:

Have you had any accidents and/or claims within the last 5 years if at fault or not?

In other words you will have to declair any accident you've had in the past five years even if it was not your fault.

Deciding to not tell the insurance company about the accident leaves you open to insurance issues should you need to make a claim.

An insurance company always pays out to the 3rd party if you're at fault, but if you've lied on your application form they don't neccessarily need to pay you!

You won't find any insurance company that wont ask this question.

But the OP's not had an accident, has he?

Sorry to hear about the knock Bodge.

I'm still trying to work out how the driver didn't stop after hitting the 1st car? Was he skidding, or just going too fast? If this was in a car park he must have been driving like a t**t to hit 4 cars in total (EEK! icon)

Yes he has, according to the insewerants rats.

Tell me about it! So am I! No skidding, no speed, just stupidity. It was like something you'd laugh at on youtube. He just kept going backwards and forwards hitting all the cars around him, trying to force his way into a space. While I had to watch from afar, all I could do was shout like a man possesed until I could get to him and stop him. The mind boggles.

WTF? Has he been detained for psychiatric assessment?

I'm kind of laughing at the image, but I'm also feeling your pain. Hope you get it sorted

They want me to go to an approved repairer (UK Assistance, Normanton, Wakefield), but are they any good? Anyone had any experience of them?

I'd be wary of a nominated repairer as these are usually done on cost. You have a legal right to get your car repaired where you choose. You do not have to accept your insurance company's repairer. My experience of approved repairers has not been good!Depending on the age of your car, you may want to look for alternatives, unless of course you are happy with their choice.Good luck

But the OP's not had an accident, has he?

Thing is you only have a set period in which to inform your insurers after an incident if there is a likely hood of a claim. So if you didnt, and 3rd party gives you the run round for long enough, or decides the repair is too expensive to pay themselves, you could be left unable to claim through your insurance.

It's a choice you have to make at the time, but dont really have too long to think. Some insurers need to know within 10 days, otherwise you'll be told where to stick your claim.

And yes, he has been in an accident. As a non fault, the OP would be seeking to recover their no claims bonus losses as well.

How can the OP possibly have been involved in an accident whilst sat on his couch?

Read my post #10. Then keep re-reading it until you actually understand how insurance companies work.

Lol

Yeah there must be a loophole somewhere! Technically I wasn't involved in an accident, but my car was. Plus it's not me that's had a claim, it's the berk that hit my car that's claiming against his policy. I could just change my name every year, to confuse their traceability. In this country all you have to do to change your name is just start calling yourself by another name. It's perfectly legal. Plenty of criminals use this perfectly legal technique to evade the law! Ken, I know exactly what you mean. They're all money grabbing rats that will do anything take your money and keep it. Insurance is all such a crooked scam of a business, and it's about time it was de-privatised, and run by a single agency. Like the DVLA for example.

It's that relationship... your car had an accident, but you didn't. At that point, you were merely the registered keeper, not the driver. For you to be in an accident you have to be in the car, surely? lol
