OEM filter is best. The reports I've read say the "performance" filters are a waste of money.

Not a waste IMO. Not a decent quality one from Green/K&N/Pipercross. Better design, better materials and it also saves you having to throw a paper one away at each service.

£35 is probably a fair going rate. But check with Awesome on here too, maybe JKM as well, see what they can do, or if there's any offers on.

But, by some accounts, you don't get the power gain. Depends on why you want to buy it I suppose.

It can't perform miracles, it's just more efficient at what it does in my mind. So yes, if you go off buying one in the belief that you'll magically realise more power, you'll be disappointed

They complement a decent stage-1 remap pretty well though...

If you want to get the by mail order, try Awesome GTI or Demon Tweeks. You may get a discount from Awesome from being a member on here. There are normally a lot sold on fleBay, but you have to remember to work out the total cost, (that's including P&P)

I would have thought an OEM filter will be just as efficent at the start of it's life as an after market one. difference being you can clean out the aftermarket one's making them a near one off purchase.

Depends if you're planning on keeping the car for another 100,000 miles or not. If you don't do loads of milage just replace the OEM one every so often and you'll end up paying out less. My opinon on the matter anyhow.

Sorry to hijack this thread but is there actually any difference between a k&n or pipercross panel filter as the piper best price is £34 and the k&n is £44!!!

The best consistent performance will be achieved with the Original Equipment air filter. Just change it at the specified intervals or sooner in particularly dusty conditions.
