nankang tyres

Featured Replies

i have heard contrasting stories about these tyres being good but hard and no traction to being rubbish and aqua plaining and was wondering if any vrs drivers have had them and would they recommend them or avoid them.thanks

All the feedback I've ever heard has been awful and puts the brand firmly in the 'ditchfinder' category. It's not worth taking the risk, please buy something else :)

What price were they anyway, and what size do you need them in?

Steve

I got one as a spare with the car when I bought it, luckily I had never had too put it on the car (touch wood)

It looks lethal ...................

I have used one as a spare as thats all the yre place had after a puncture so I got them to swap it for the tyre on the spare. I had to use the spare once. It was not a pleasent experiance.

If your looking for a good budget tyre look no further thant the Falken 912.

I drove around the skid pan at The Nurburgring GP track with a set on my Rallye Golf in pouring rain and it didn't slide at all and I gave it some. Very impressive were my son's comments. 4WD I know.......... I was quite surprised myself. The Rallye is a sunny day pottering car these days and we took the opportunity to give it a test with loads of room for an off. Didn't need it. Still, you do get what you pay for but the NS2s aren't as bad as folk make out at all.

I've got a pair on the front of my VRS (they came on the car) I don't really push the car too hard and haven't had any problems with them, they seem to hold traction under acceleration as well. TBH one they are fubared I will go for something a bit more high end, they are pretty important.

they are pretty important.

Thats the way I look at it, they are the only thing sticking you too the floor at the end of the day

Nankangs are not very good In the wet. I had serious issues with them as well http://briskoda.development.scalr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=140572

I swapped them to Hankook V12 evo tyres & you can tell by the tread pattern they would be good at shifting water & they didn't disapoint.

If you can afford better tyres then stay clear of these.

+1.

From experience, less than £75-100 a corner is unlikely to be any good when your really need some grip.

with some work phoning round you can turn up some really good premum tyres.

I have three key things

1 budget tyes false economy - I tend to find they ware out more quickly

2 there is only a very small patch of rubber on the road

3 what price do I put on my safety and life

the current set on my octi are a set of mitchalins which by the time I had finished shopping round were cheeper than a lot of so called budget tyres

I wouldn't go nankangs. Had a set on my first car with some second hand alloy I bought. Loads of tred left so I didn't bother switching them. They are deceptive as in the dry they seem to be as good as the continetals they replaced. But in the wet they were atrocious. You could barely corner slowly without bags of understeer. After testing them on an open piece of road; turning onto a ramp to join a dual carridge way and finding that it was near impossible to get them to grip. I decided to let some air out the fronts bringing them to about 3-4 psi under the specified amount in a bid to get more grip even at the cost of a far faster wearing tyre. And we are talking sensible driving here!

Ditchfinders!

And @gadgetman... shop around, you can get decent tyres for a lot less! Falken 452's are £51 a corner in my current size. I can also get Avon ZZ3's for £55.

I've just checked and my tyres are actually Nexen, not sure if that's better or worse? They were brand new on the car when I got it so will be a while before I replace them with something more high end.

Avoid at all costs,

Cheap tyres is false ecomony

Nankang, Nexen, Federal... all bad!

I can strongly recommend Kumho KU31's which I got for c£40 per corner (plus fitting) for my passat with 16inch wheels. I had them on my Octy vRS too and found them excellent.

Those Kumho's are good too!

Sometimes it's not about spending lots of money. But you should spend enough to get a decent set!

I've had some bad experiences with Dunlop and Continental tyres.

And don't get any Mashimoto ZX tyres...

I've tried a few brands and always gone back too the Toyos, they arn't great on the wear rate but I consider grip more important.

I have paid £195 for two in Cardiff before now, then I had a pair online for £146 inc del and £15 for fitting.

This time I rang around south wales and got them for £156 fitted in Pontypridd which is only a 5-10 min drive from the house and I'm up there twice a week working so it suits me great.

The moral of my story is as others have said shop around :)

See, can't go wrong with Falken 452's :D

i got 2 dunlop winter sports on the front and changed my spare wheel with continental for near new part worn for the spare and thats a bridgestone and got them for £105 fitted

Nankangs..... Hmm. A chap I know had them on his 200SX...

...he no longer has that car. Total & utter family-killers. Avoid like the plague!

I did. Cheapest for the Michelin Primacy HP's I found for the works car was £100 each. And that was Kwik fit
