Disappointing Day On JKM's Rollers And Yet Another Scrape :(

Check out that clip above Sy.

Cor, that fuelling isn't very smooth is it? There's some work to be done there I'm afraid.

Interesting that the fueling is different though on the two runs? Does this mean that the stage2+ is indeed requesting more fuel at some point or is this vastly over simplifying how it works? :)

I am no expert but looking at the before and after I would say you still have the wrong map Timmy.

Phatbox is worth more that 10 by the way. ;)

if ben is online he'll prob be able to explain it.

my before(bluefin stage 2+) and after(shark Stg 3) lamda logs for fueling.

lambda before

lambda after

To get lamba into AFR multiply by 14.7 or whatever the stoichiometric AFR value is

Cheers hedge mate. was searching the net for the conversion then.

So it looks like the afr is about 11.2 on my after logs

Yes, the second run is richer but not particularly in the right places. The graphs track

so similarly I suggest the fuelling is the same just perhaps with a higher rail pressure.

I'll post an AFR plot up from mine tomorrow for you to compare against.

It only has a 20gb cartridge in it though Ian :)

Thinking about it, the 'wrong map' scenario is the only one I've not been able to rule out yet but I will do in the morning.

Yes, Superchips confirmed the stage2+ map was correct, but the errors the Bluefin handset gave me when selecting the stage2+ file might have caused something to go strange, even though as Sy pointed out earlier a 'new' map was definitely loaded as the 'install bluefin' option was the only one presented when I plugged into the car. Although the CEL light coming on means I'm pretty sure the map had changed.

The difference tomorrow will be that the new map from Superchips came on its own - the file I received only had the one stage2+ map in it, rather than the 3 that came in the original file which did seem to upset the handset.

More than likely wishful thinking though - I'm 95% sure it will feel the same.

It is possible to 'expand' the hdd in the Phatbox but another time and another thread. ;)

Fingers crossed for the new map. I know people knock Superchips but they are always quick to make amends. I found this on the internet and it gives you an idea what your AFR should be doing even though it is a bigger turbo.

My understanding on the K03's is that they can peg the AFR's all the way along at 12 and lower with a hpfp. I am sure someone will be along to correct me. :)

was that a wave of your willy there hedge, :giggle:;)

bluefin are very competitive with other tuners on the k04. its a shame they dont seem as good on the K03. customer service seems ok though

Ian do you know where i think it was makefishes(think it was his) stage 2+ revo Stg2+ plot is on here. iirc that had the afr on it, should be handy for a quic comparison.

Ta Ian that's interesting. Those K04's give an amazing leap in power over the K03 :)

Can't fault Superchips really - patient to the last with my emails and the initial stage 1 was (relatively, compared to the stock 200bhp) excellent.

yeah my stage 1 was good as well. 241bhp 249Ibft on a DD roller.(made an erratic 248bhp 260Ibft on same roller but with duff PCV @ stage 2 with my old cold red intake)

my only gripes were stage 2 onwards

Mr Shark was kind enough to drive all the way from Reading to Bristol on Saturday night to pay me a visit.

Very interesting couple of hours. Took my car out first and Ben thought it was holding back at around the 5k rpm mark onwards - similar to Sy's car on the same Bluefin stage2+ map.

Stuck a different map on the car to see how it would respond but was dismayed to hear the clutch start slipping on us. Although this was quick and dirty proof that Ben's map was more powerful than the Bluefin stage2+ map, not the way I really wanted to prove it :)

So that brought my car shenanigans to an end really.

Then went out in Ben's car with a new map he's working on and although it felt similar to mine, there was definitely more torque in the mid-range - bear in mind this is without an uprated HPFP.

Then came the amusing bit - Ben stuck his standard stage 2 map on his car and we went for a little drive.

Wow. This thing is seriously rapid - it honestly would have breezed past my car if we were having a straight line race. I genuinely would have stumped up some cash if clutch issue hadn't spoiled things (sorry Ben, not what you want to hear).

So still a bit confused by it all really. Clutch issues aside (one for another thread I think), is this simply a case of me getting some experience of a 'decent' map?

Everyone seems to rave about Revo and they do seem to get the highest torque and bhp figures. Perhaps Ben's stage 2 is similar to Revo in that it's simply a world away from the Bluefin stage 2.

No offence intended to Superchips - as already stated, at £50 the stage 2 map is pretty good value but it's a world away from what I witnessed on saturday.

Final point of confusion is regarding this expensive shiny pump I've just shelled out for. It's clear I'm getting zero benefit from it at present. Ben doesn't have an uprated pump, yet manages to run a much more powerful map on his car with no cutting issues.

Is there a Revo map/setting that truly utilises the potential of an uprated pump that would blow me away, or have I wasted my money? Discuss :)

As a final point, I've had a standard map on all week (stage 0!) and I'm shocked at how slow the car feels. Anyone with a standard car should buy themselves a Christmas present. It is nice to actually have a usable 2nd gear for a change though.

The Bluefin handset refused to load my stage2+ on tonight as it thinks I've changed the standard map on the car - which I have in essence - but I've emailed Michael at Superchips so I'm sure they'll sort it out.

Zero clutch slip on the standard map.

Ben if you read this, let me know if anything I've reported is inaccurate and many thanks again for your time and company.
