Felicia Fuel Problem

Featured Replies

Hi, I have just changed the fuel filter on my 1998 skoda felicia pickup 1.9d and it wont start again. After many attempts to release any air from the system i realised there was no fuel/air flowing what so ever. I then disconnected the inlet pipe from the tank to the filter and turned the engine over to find no fuel flowing from the tank. This would suggest to me that the lift pump on the tank is at fault or something electrical like a relay but im unsure. I have checked the fuses also and they seem ok to. Is there any procedure that you could do to prove if the pump is working or could it be another problem? Any replies would be apprieciated thanks Shaun

They never start after a fuel filter change unless you prime the system first by filling the new filter with as much diesel as you can get into it. We usually use a hand operated vacuum pump to suck the fuel from the tank into the filter.

Do these not have a little vacuum pump under the bonnet?

My old citroen diesel had one and the 306 diesel we have now has one for when you run out of fuel and need to prime the fuel system again.

Perhaps it would be pretty easy to put one inline in the fuel line for now and future occasions?

Phil

Dunno about the Felly, but newer VAG diesels don't have a primer, and all PSA ones up to the introduction of the HDi engines did.
