Does Anyone Else Suffer With A Really Damp Boot?

Featured Replies

After all of this heavy rain, I've recently found the boot carpet wet with mould growing on the wood layer under the carpet.

The spare wheel well was wet but not drenched, although when i put the car through a car wash earlier on last year it filled the rear wheel well with about 2 inches of water.

Lifting the boot lid you can see water on the bottom of the inside panel, also what i have noticed is that water seems to get into the rubber seal and pressing down on the seal near the hole squeezes quite alot of water out. Do you think this could be the cause?

I cant see any obvious places where water has run either.

I've stripped the wheel well out and the boot carpet and sat inside whilst i've had someone spray a hose over the car and down into the shuts and around the wiper arm.

I couldn't see any obvious leaks either.

I've just adjusted the catch and wound the bump stops in a bit, you now have to slam the boot lid quite firmly to get it to shut. I've to wait to see it rain hard again to see if it leaks.

When i came to it this morning there were more signs of water on the trim on the inside of the boot lid.

The rubber seal looks in very good condition.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Have a scan through previous threads - there's several on leaky tailgates/wet boot carpets etc

I forgot to mention that i've had a search, it did bring some answers back but not many related to the mk2.

The rear washer hose isn't the cause either.

But thanks for the input though :)

and for the second time today............boot seal!

I tried and tried to find the problem and went over the boot seal with a fine tooth comb but couldn't fine anything wrong. Took car to Rivervale in Portslade, they replaced the seal and............bingo, no more leaks!

My car also somehow gets water into the boot seal. I fixed the problem of water collecting by making a small hole in the outside of the boot seal at one of the bottom corners of the boot. Now water that gets into the seal runs straight out. I never got water into the boot in my car though, it would pool on the boot sill but not get in - probably because I squeezed the water out of the seal whenever I noticed it building up, so there wasn't enough to overflow - haven't seen any wet there in months now. Given November saw over 3 times the average rainfall in Ireland pretty much everywhere if there was a problem it would have definitely come back in those conditions...

Cant you get it fixed under warranty?

I've had my last two cars leak and I think my Octy does too due to the condensation levels in the car. There's no obvious water ingress but this could be it. I shall investigate further...

I will be interested to see what the outcome is Dave.

Unfortunately we haven't had much rain since i tightened the catch down. So its early days yet.
