'09 1.6CR Octavia

Featured Replies

I have now reached about 2300 miles in my Octavia 1.6CR and on journeys that always returned on avg 53mpg on my '07 Octavia, I now struggle to reach 49mpg in the new one! So much for better economy, I am now forking out much more per month on diesel than ever before. Will this improve? Has anyone else similar concerns?

What engine did your previous Octavia have?

I have probably missed something and and misunderstood but shouldn't this be on the octavia Forum and not on the Yeti forum? :D

I would say 2,300 miles is far too early to judge your fuel consumption. It will start improving in the next 2,500 miles and will probably take until at least 10,000 before you reach your proper fuel consumption for your car.

I've done over 5,000 in mine and it's getting better all the time. The average is showing around 55mpg for all types of driving and tests carried out by going from full to full on the tank would suggest that the trip computer is fairly accurate. I've yet to work out the latest figures, but the first test I did when it was less that 1,000 miles only showed 51mpg average against a reading of 52. I managed to get over 70mpg on the trip computer today measured over the 50 limit on the M4 in South Wales, so it would seem that the figures in the book are achievable if you're not in any kind of hurry.

I have now reached about 5500 km (equals about 3400 miles, if I am not mistaken) and my mpg varied from (I've got it right this time, I'm sure...) 48 mpg to 55 mpg. I've got the impression (has yet to be confirmed) that, on my usual trips, I'm getting more miles out of my gallons, lately. This still is to be confirmed. Everybody states that after a while (15.000 km or about 10.000 miles) you'll get the 'normal' mpg. That would be good news. Still hoping to raise the mpg. I respect the speed limits, but from time to time I floor the pedal. What a great (and new) feeling after two atmospheric (read lethargic) diesels and 650.000 kilometers (400.000 miles). And the aircon...

I wonder whether the differences in mpg of what seem to be identical cars, are due to 'individual' differences of the cars or different driving styles of the owners?

I'm averaging about 50mpg in mine including a fair bit about town. On the motorway its always 50+ unless I'm in a hurry!
