Fabia vRS idling high

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My Fabia vRS (56 reg) has suddenly started idling high when I am out of gear or dip the clutch - it's annoying as the car will bite when it shouldn't when changing gear etc.

What causes this? If I give it a few revs it usually calms back down to normal but otherwise will be at around 1200rpm.....

Cheers,

Dan

coolant temperature sensor? Does it do it all the time or only when it's warm?

All the time

Could be the air flow meter or even the egr valve.

hmmm, the CTS problem generally only happens when the engine is warm and it's intermittent. Could be something like the throttle pedal as it is fly by wire rather than just a cable. I should get it checked with VCDS as a starting point.

temp sensor, is it using more than the usual cold weather amount of fuel

It's going in for it's 1st MOT tomorrow so will ask them to take a look ;) cheers all

Didn't these have a problem with the gasket on the EGR valve? I'm sure they modified it and made the hole a different size to over come a high rev problem.

Throttle position module faulty.

Throttle position module faulty.

flew through it's mot they also hooked it up to diagnostics, couldn't find anything wrong yet charged me £45 for the pleasure!

i had this same problem with the rev's mine revs to 1000rpm first thing in the morning until i blip the throttle, then just drops back down to 850rpm, got my dealer to check it out, came back with no fault found and also got vag com and still not logged any faults, did think it could be something with the remap?

Throttle sensor doesn't show up as a fault when scanned if it's just a little noisy. It's a fly by wire throttle, and the module is just a variable resistor. Fault (high idle) usually clears briefly if you tap the pedal with your foot.

As for code scan prices, grab a Gendan FCR for £39. It wont do adaption or comfort modules etc, but does engine, AT Gearbox, ABS and Airbags. Believe me it's idiot proof, as I can use it

Taping the throttle to bring the idle back to what it should be was exactly what I had to do. Another vote for throttle pedal position sensor as replacing that on mine fixed it.

any idea how much one of them cost, and can i code it in with vag com?

Throttle position module faulty.

I'd guess that as well.

IIRC they are about £90 fitted by dealer. So part probably about £60 as it's only a 20 minute job. No adaption needed AFAIK

might try and get it done under warrenty then, considering it doesnt expire until march 2010

Mine did this untill it went for its first MOT last week. The dealer changed the throttle pedal under warranty and now all is well! :)

I got mine replaced under warrenty on my 07 vRS SE

Having this same problem on and off. High revs sometimes when starting and other times when I am slowing down (which is a real pain). Tapping the pedal usually fixed it and if it doesn't tapping the pedal from underneath does. Garage have run it through diagnostics and no fault found... is it worth just getting them to change the Throttle Control Module? They cant say that is definetely the problem so could be a waster of over £100 but based on what has been said here its a good start right?

Any help or tips as to what else it could be would be fantastic.

Also, is the throttle control module basically a whole new pedal?

Cheers

Module will be your problem, it never throws a fault code unless completely goosed. Module is just a small variable resistor pack attached to the pedal.

Thanks for the help moggytech, the garage have said they ordered the part and it includes a whole new pedal and it's around 70. Hmmm now I'm worried that may not include the module...

Will phone them tomorrow to just confirm that whatever they have ordered needs to have the 'throttle control module' as that is what's needed. Is that what the part is called?

Throttle position sensor module.

Ace thanks!
