170 vs 140 DSG

Featured Replies

In the brochures the fuel economy of the 170 is supposed to be quite a bit better than the 140, those of you who have either car could you post up your findings for comparison, thx.

Hi I am on my second 140 dsg octavia, and on the first the fuel economy was really good I used to get 48 to the gallon on short journeys while on long it was 58+ to the gallon. Now my second octavia 140 dsg estate is totally different I am struggling to get 39 to the gallon on short journeys while on a long journey it is 45 to the gallon. Cant really explain the rubbish fuel consumption on the new car, but skoda dealer says wait while the engine is run in, but I have just clocked up 13000 miles.

Anyway hope this helps, and by the way dsg is fantastic.

The 170 is quieter and deceptively fast when mated up to the DSG. I've had the 140 too with DSG and I prefer the 170 now. The 140 was better on fuel as the other poster has said although the 170 is doing in the early forties regularly on a variety of runs/roads with just over 14k on the clock.

The Skoda's always seem to return better figures than the VW's, I don't know why but they do, maybe it's slightly detuned.

At work there is a dsg Passat that the driver says returns 35mpg, and a dsg Octavia A5 that the driver gets 40mpg doing the same type of work, both cabs btw.

If they are both 2.0ltrs I think the engine in the Passat could be the 8v with DPF and the engine in the Octy should be the 16v without DPF this would make the Octy more fuel efficient, I would also say the Passat is a bigger heavier car.

Getting 45 to 50 mpg would like more [wouldn't we all] ,I still say that's excellent considering what it is.

My Leon PD140 DSG does 40-50 mpg, depending on speed and traffic. Nearer the 40 mark on my daily 26 mile commute (mixed urban and motorway in traffic), nearer 50 cruising with a bit of restraint.

I regularly get over 800kms out of my 55ltr tank and can get over 900kms if I try. I am a sales rep so most of my driving is open road but at the same time, I dont be hanging about. Remapped PD140 DSG.

I have a Superb Elegance 170CR DSG which now has +20000 miles on the clock. I have gotten 50 mpg with more narrow 16" winter tyres, but regularly with summer tyres 17" I get the advertised figure of 46 mpg.* I couldn't be happier with the combination of the 170CR with the DSG!

*Consumption figures from actual consumption, the computer is 10% off.

I had a 140bhp Octy II DSG before moving to the 170bhp Superb DSG. My current journey is about 16 miles a day on single carriageway A and B roads. Octy would give me around 45-48mpg, but even the computer on the Superb is telling me I'm only getting about 39 (so probably less than that). It is significantly thirstier, unless you're doing a lot of motorway miles.

However, it's a fantastic engine - much quieter than the 140 and very powerful.

boys and girls i went for the 1.9tdi 105 pd and i get on average 56-58 mph easy and i have a heavy right foot although not as powerful does over 115 easy ive taken it to 120 and more left in the tank so i am happy dsg no way hate it manual all the way all you boys and girls with the larger engine you should have got the 1.9tdi 105pd because its the best engine the vag group have ever made

Does the Superb use the same PD 105 as in the Golf? (BKC engine code)

I actually really dislike the DSG box on the diesel engines , being in 6th gear at 40mph is a nonsense imo my local dealer has an Octy dsg VRS as a loaner and i really dislike it

FWIW my manual 170 has averaged 43mpg tank to tank since i bought it , its often given as high as 48mpg tank to tank if a few long trips are thrown in

I have a cr 170 dsg octy vrs. My average consumption (including fair bits of A-roads & extra urban) is around 51 mpg and on long journeys during summer I've at best got around 59mpg. I don't pootle around and use aircon constantly and blast the "sound system" stereo etc which adds a bit to the consumption. I also constantly use cruise. Overall I do have to say I'm very happy with the consumption figures.

Superb is a bigger car so figures are bound to be slightly worse but still I'd expect nothing short of good figures from it.
