creaking suspension

Featured Replies

My front suspension has developed a very pronounced metallic "creaking" when under load. It only happens when turning left, so it is on the right hand front side. It seems very sensitive to steering input even at crawling speeds..................any ideas ?????

Chum I have this fault on the front left suspension when I go over a speed bump. Someone posted a fix for this that came from VW, but when my local dealer checked it out they said it was fine. The creak first appeared around 3k, with car now run up 50k no problems have manifest (apart from the creaking noise).

As a sidebar, I've a relation whom works for a firm that runs golfs and passats (which, I understand, have the same, basic suspension unit); he's encountered same problem but no adverse effects after many 100k run up.

Same problem here from Front Right, just annoying noise.

There is a very lengthy thread that I started about Creaking Suspension which has the part numbers for the bits that need swapping.

A search will find it , but it's timing out at the mo.

Hmm I need this too! I have a feeling it might be the roll bar bushes too dry? or the drop link swivel ball join connection.

Mine happens just pulling forward.if you come off the gas and back on then it seems ok, but then break a bit then gas back on and creek/knock happens

IIRC Grease on Lower wishbone sorted my creaking front suspension....special red grease so I was told (the fix has lasted),

Btw also check the rad's, IIRC Mk1 suffered from loose rad's.

Thanks lads. It seems to have gone all on its own !! I think it is very weather dependant, it has come and gone before so fingers crossed..........on a happier note, I am getting my 312mm brakes fitted tommorow complete with brand new Mintex pads, I decided not to go down the performance pad route (ferodo, EBC) as they are much to expensive and I think I'll get increased performance over my 288mm set-up from the Mintex anyway.

Blimey, could be! I didn't have much grease to do the job and I guessed it would be ok but obviously not.

will report back my findings.
