1 week, 400 miles, first problem...

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Been getting to grips with the Furby over the last week (quite a shift from 2 litre turbo RWD coupe to TD FWD hatchback!)

Washed it for the first time today and have discovered something worrying - the lacquer finish on the alloys is really poor - brake dust, and presumably water, has managed to get under the lacquer on all 4 wheels to some extent, no amount of scrubbing would shift it

And water has also got under the clear plastic cover of the skoda badges on the centre caps, which has subsequently started to lift up

Naturally I'm not happy

Anybody else had this problem? I haven't contacted the dealer yet, but they surely must replace the wheels under warranty if they're going this way after a week, right?

Can't speak for the alloy itself, but the cover over the centre caps is just a removable protective designed to come off.

Yep, on closer inspection I feel partially stupid as that's true

But with that little dumbass question out of the way, how about the lacquer???

i thought i had the same problems but it was clear sticky plastic covers over the badges, and protective wax on the wheels which just needs plenty of elbow grease

I have some diamondbrite, I was thinking about trying that if I can shift the brake dust that's already on there... but if it has got under the lacquer, then protective wax won't help :(

I also thought I had the same problem, but te muck comes off with some elbow grease. On my car, it only affected one wheel.

Cars are often supplied to the dealer with a special solvent, for removing the protective wax that cars are coated in before leaving the factory. You could pop back to the dealer, and ask them to have a look at them: they should probably shift the wax for you.

Hmmm, some vigorous rubbing of the spokes with a dry finger rather than a wet sponge suggests this might be the problem... but the dealer is 60 miles away and I can only get there at weekends. Bug and tar remover should shift the wax, right?
