Giving Sky the boot.......

Featured Replies

Simple question folks, hopefully there'll be an expert with the answer.

If I cancel my Sky subscription will I still be able to receive all of the free sat channels eg BBC, ITV, E4 etc or will the box become useless?

Thanks in advance.

You will but will not be able to record,

Get a Humax and swap the sky box out emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Thanks.

No record is not a problem - I don't have sky+ now anyway. Medium term plan will be a freestat HD+ box just as soon as I get a HD telly................

another  for the humax freesat hd recorder box

only thing is that you will probibly need to check the lnb on the dish to see if it will provide more than one feed and then put a second cable in.

but ref the sky box yes it will still give you all the free to air channels

While the sky box does give freeview channels, its bloody annoying that it lists every single channel, and quite a few freeview channels dont seem to be accessible.

You spend more time looking at "phone xxxxx to upgrade" prompts than watching TV.

The only problem I have is no "Dave", but my parents get it in MK?

Cant you ask for a free/no sub sky card from them?

Len - is that over Freesat? I don't get Dave either on it, but just switch to built-in Freeview on the TV to watch it.

So your parents get Dave over Freeview down in MK?

I think they charge £5 for a card.

if I were you I would forget Freesat HD for a bit :'(

Reading on "Digital Spy" forums its only going to get 3 or 4 HD channels until some new satellites are launched 2012 or 2013

and for Freeview HD you need a new type " DVB-T2" type reciever which is only just available

When you quit Sky, the current viewing card provides you with free sat channels. If you are after a free sat from Sky and have never had Sky subscription and require all the kit then its £146.81 one off payment. If you have the kit but no card then the card is £20 one off payment.

Not sure what you need for those sets you can get from LIDL or ALDI but at worst, I guess it would just be a card.
