Superb from an Octy, thoughts so far

Featured Replies

I've had my 58 plate Superb II 170CR Elegance a month now and have put 2.5k on it including a day trip from Northampton to Glasgow and back. Having had an old Superb Edition 100 and then an Octy Elegance for the last two years I thought I'd post my thoughts so far.

Engine, much more power than the Octy and so much quieter, more like a petrol than any diesel I've ever driven. It is a little thirstier than the 1.9PD, but then it has a much bigger car to lug about and it has only done 12k against 122k in the Octy.:)

Ride, I am finding the ride rather firm, but am getting used to it now. Hopefully it will soften a little with age or I'll get used to it more.

Toys, oh how I love the Columbus system. :) I have a load of music on the HD now and have even got the wife using an SD card with her music on it. The sat nav is also better than the MFD2 I had in the Octy and the MFD in the old Superb. The phone kit is the best I've used, but then we did both already have Nokia phones that support rSAP. I have a large collection of concert DVDs and being able to listen to them in the car now is great. The car has park assist, but living in a house with a drive way I've not used it yet. The lights are fantastic, I'm still at the stage of enjoying them changing shape as I drive along. Having done a couple of runs on B roads at night the AFS is a great boon. I'm 6'3" and the wife is 5', so having the memory seats again is fantastic, except it is now so much easier for her to use my car now that she doesn't have to mess with the seat and mirrors.

The refinement of the car is fantastic, better than the Octy and the old Superb. I love the little touches and general build quality. I've also gone from a long line of black cars to the Satin Grey (or blue as it looks to me) and am enjoying how well it hides the dirt.;)

All in all I am very happy with the car and am enjoying every trip in it.

Nice - thanks for sharing

Sounds like you're very happy with it :)

Hi, I have had my Superb for just over 2 months now and I am still over the moon with it. My previous cars were an Octavia 2 Estate 2.0tdi Elegance and the same again in L&K form(with stacks of extras). Which my wife has now inherited.

When I decided to change cars I had a certain budget (around 25k)and an open mind. I tried the Audi A4,(didn't like the look of the facelift ) and the spec was poor for the price. The BMW 3 series was even worse in that respect and it was too small. Mondeo's were too confusing specwise and I would not consider French cars.

As long as nothing starts to rattle or fall off,I would in all honestly say that I have never enjoyed car ownership so much. I also love all the toys and it makes me sad to see all the prestige Marque car owners running around in poverty spec cars just because of image.

Hi

I too have moved from an Octavia vrs to a Superb cr170 elegance dsg, and am so pleased with the move. The Superb is plenty quick enough to make rapid progress when required, but it really wins in terms of its refinement, space, quality and equipment - it really is a luxury car. I do most of my journeys on the motorway where the Superb just cossets you and makes every journey very relaxing. Anyone else who is considering a switch from an Octy....have no worries, you will be glad you did.

I had one on a week's loan and didn't want to give it back. Could have driven it for days as it was so effortless to drive, although that's hardly surprising when it had the 170 bhp CR under the bonnet mated up to the excellent DSG box and Elegance trim. Would it be on my wishlist ? I should say so.

I have a few questions to ask the ex Octy drivers amoung ye, as I am thinking they could drive me crazy in the short term if I was to switch.

1. Do ye miss the dash top cubby? I find this so usefull for phones and pens and stuff.

2. The door bins are so much smaller than the Octy, with no bottle holder in the front.

3. the lack of a right hand side foot rest, I love this when driving on cruise.

So, have these issues cropped up for any of ye? Were they issues at all for ye? Does the lack of storage mean you just keep less junk in the car? Would love to get your feed back here guys.

Bryan

1. Not at all, although I thought that I might.

2. That's true, but again, I've overcome it easily.

3. I wouldn't have used the rest if there had been one and didn't use it on the Octy, so no problem for me.

On the positive side, I love the improved heating controls, the key-assigned auto-positioning seats and the Columbus, all of which outweigh the three points above, at least in my experience. :)

Hi,

I have just upgraded form a 1.9tdi Oct Estate elegance to an 2ltr (170 CR) superb Elegance, best move that I have made, very nice car got in the new grey colour with the dark leather seats. the heated seats are great in this weather.

As for the cubby holes the only one that I miss is the sunglasses holder in the roof, the superb has one, only that it is slightly smaller and my sunglasses dont fit.

there is more room in the centre cup / bottle holder

The equipment is far greater and the room in the back is superb (sorry)

Agree how to you get the the assiged seats to work (please dont say use another key), is it another option or I have to select something in the maxidot setup

I find there is just enough of a lip on the wheel arch to act as a foot rest and it has your foot nice and close to the throttle if you need to brake in a hurry.

I have missed the bottle holder in the door as it was a great place to put an empty thermal cup out of the way when it was finished, but it's not a big problem.

To get a key linked to the seat memory, first store the position as normal and then take the key out of the ignition and press open within 10 seconds. You should get a beep the same as when you stored the seat position. One thing I found was that the drivers door needs to be closed when you do this, caused me some confusion when setting things up for my wife.

Just as spencem said, or go to page 74 in the manual - it's ARGEE, by the way - my initials. :)

Spencem, this is not a Superb question, but a Columbus question. I have a Yeti also with the Columbus and second you enthusiasm, except I cannot get the Columbus to recognize the SD cards. Neither 2 GB or 4 GB with WMA or MP3 files on them. The file format on the cards is FAT 32.

Can you share which formats you have success with?

Thanks.

I think you need to have them formatted FAT16 below 4GB? You also need a file in the root directory and make sure none of the files have DRM on them. If it still will not see the card then I suggest a trip to the dealer as you may have a faulty unit. On mine as soon as you put the card in it starts to read it and a few seconds later automatically starts playing the first file.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help, I managed to get it to read MP3 from a 2 Gig drive formatted "FAT Standard" as Vista calls it. It still will not play WMA files, but sees them on the card.

I will now go and see if a 4 Gig drive in FAT 16 will work.

I suspect that your WMA files have DRM on them, if you made them by ripping a CD with Windows Media Player then it does this by default. You can turn it of in one of the menus, but you probably have Windows loaded in a different language to me so I cannot tell you exactly where, sorry.

At least you know your Columbus works, just need to get round Microsoft's issues now. :)
